{"id":197577,"date":"2021-08-25T14:17:37","date_gmt":"2021-08-25T13:17:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=197577"},"modified":"2021-09-12T12:34:34","modified_gmt":"2021-09-12T11:34:34","slug":"ethereum-binance-smart-chain-polygon-are-leading-yield-farming-resurgence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ethereum-binance-smart-chain-polygon-are-leading-yield-farming-resurgence\/","title":{"rendered":"Crypto.com Report: Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, Polygon are leading &#8216;yield farming&#8217; resurgence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/crypto.com\/research\/article?category=defi&page=trends_in_yield_farming\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DeFi report<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by crypto services platform <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/crypto-com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crypto.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dove into yield farming opportunities and DeFi adoption across newer blockchains such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ethereum-binance-smart-chain-dexs-are-eating-their-centralized-crypto-counterparts\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Binance Smart Chain<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Polygon, and others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report, written by Crypto.com research manager Kevin Wang, concluded that the reasons for yield framing regaining popularity are the launch of new blockchains, layer 2 solutions on Ethereum, the evolution of autonomous market maker (AMM), and the development of yield aggregators.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Yield farming trends<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yield farming, also referred to as liquidity mining, is a way to generate passive rewards with cryptocurrency holdings. In May, Google Trends of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/cryptos\/defi\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DeFi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> peaked, and the TVL also tapped an all-time high of $86 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In terms of Total Value Locked (TVL) \u2014 a metric for the total value of all cryptocurrencies locked in a particular protocol \u2014 Polygon and Binance Smart Chain emerged as the most popular solutions alongside Ethereum for DeFi applications and products.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most popular layer 2 solution, on the other hand, was ZK-Rollups, a scaling solution designed with privacy and scalability in mind. Such solutions were designed to combat the inherent issues of high gas fees and network congestion on Ethereum; they submit aggregated data by batch to Ethereum\u2019s mainnet instead of each piece of information.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>AMMs and yield farm risks<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/uniswap\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Automated market makers (AMMs)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 smart contract-based exchanges that match trades using liquidity pools \u2014 were highlighted as the \u2018poster child\u2019 for DEXs and liquidity in the DeFi market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These, however, came with their set of issues. \u201cAMMs are not exactly perfect solutions and do come with several limitations, such as low fund utilization, additional risk exposure, and the widely discussed issue of impermanent loss,\u201d wrote Wang, adding:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>\u201cDuring the development last year, new market maker algorithms appeared to solve the traditional AMMs issues such as DODO\u2019s PMM, Bancor v2, Balancer v2, and Uniswap v3.\u201d<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, the Crypto.com report stated that yield farming and AMMs had some inherent risks for users. \u201cit is not a risk-free game and investors should bear in mind the potential risks, including impermanent loss and smart contract risk,\u201d wrote Wang in the report.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another issue cited was that of impermanent loss, or the loss due to the change of an <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">underlying token\u2019s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> prices in the AMM that lead to the tokens being less valuable than just holding. \u201cNo matter the rise or drop of price for the staking token, the impermanent loss always exists, unless the token\u2019s price returns to the initial state,\u201d Wang noted.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new DeFi report by crypto services platform Crypto.com dove into yield farming opportunities and DeFi adoption across newer blockchains such as Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, and others.
