Is regulation coming?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The head of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-head-gary-gensler-warns-of-even-more-crypto-regulation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gary Gensler<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is ready to draw regulatory lines for the decentralized finance (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/cryptos\/defi\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">DeFi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) sector, saying that many projects are not sufficiently decentralized to escape the agency\u2019s supervision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some DeFi projects display certain aspects that put them in the same basket with entities scrutinized by the regulator, insisting on primarily being concerned with investor protection.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why many DeFi projects fit the profile<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gensler, who already <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/gary-gensler-sounds-alarm-on-growing-defi-activity-says-sec-looking-to-regulate-crypto-sector\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">warned<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the DeFi sector is bound to get regulated, explained why some projects fit the SEC\u2019s target profile.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since they are developed by a \u201ccore group of folks,\u201d typically incentivized to promote their platforms, many of the patrolled projects displayed \u201chighly\u201d centralized features, Gensler told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/cryptos-defi-projects-arent-immune-to-regulation-secs-gensler-says-11629365401\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wall Street Journal<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite their non-custodial nature, many DeFi projects have an organized group of developers, typically incentivized to promote their platforms and, as such, display clear centralized features that call for regulatory compliance, explained Gensler.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere\u2019s still a core group of folks that are not only writing the software, like the open-source software, but they often have governance and fees,\u201d he said, focusing on the \u201cincentive structure for those promoters and sponsors in the middle.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Work with us and get registered<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThese so-called decentralized finance platforms actually have a lot of centralization. There\u2019s a group of entrepreneurs that are running these platforms.
