Over a dozen blocks are being reorgd & up to 3 versions of the chain being mined simultaneously across pools,\u201d noted Lucas Nuzzi, a product manager at CoinMetrics, on Twitter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He added, \u201cThere was plenty of confusion across mining pools after the attack, but only one (successful) 14-block reorg since the attack began.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BSV is going through a massive 51% attack.<\/p>\n<p>After an attempted attack yesterday, some serious hashing power was unleashed today at 11:46AM and attackers are succeeding.<\/p>\n<p>Over a dozen blocks are being reorgd & up to 3 versions of the chain being mined simultaneously across pools.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Lucas Nuzzi (@LucasNuzzi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LucasNuzzi\/status\/1422637361138130944?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 3, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In response to the attack, the Bitcoin Association stated node operators should mark the fraudulent chain as &#8220;invalid,&#8221; allowing to return the node to the chain supported by honest miners and &#8220;lock the attacker\u2019s chain out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;To invalidate the fraudulent chain, node operators should run the following command on their #BitcoinSV node: bitcoin-cli invalidateblock 000000000000000003B67AEC95E9B5DA897EB5EBF3227D5A6A67835104367840&#8221;<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In response to the ongoing re-organisation attack on the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BSV?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BSV<\/a> network, Bitcoin Association recommends that node operators mark the fraudulent chain as invalid.<\/p>\n<p>This will immediately return your node to the chain supported by honest miners and lock the attacker\u2019s chain out.<\/p>\n<p>1\/2<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Bitcoin Association (@BitcoinAssn) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BitcoinAssn\/status\/1422648041161609224?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 3, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Major crypto exchanges did not delist BSV at press time. However, Huobi, OKEx, and Bittrex had previously delisted BSV after a similar attack last month that caused an illegal block reorganization.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>BSV prices and explaining the 51% attack<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/explained-51-percent-attacks-on-bitcoin-cryptocurrencies\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">51% attack<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> occurs when <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more than half <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the miners powering a proof-of-work network collude and gain power over a majority of the entire network\u2014leading to the chain being completely put at their mercy and some transactions at their whims.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miners controlling such a network are, theoretically, able to do the following: excluding transactions from being included in on the blockchain, preventing transactions from being confirmed, modifying the order of the chain, blocking other miners from validating the chain, and reversing transactions to double-spend tokens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Such a scenario is rare as it requires a huge amount of money, power, and miner coordination to carry such an attack out. But as Bitcoin SV proponents learned last night, it does occur and presents a viable threat to chains whose miners are <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more centralized<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than what the community otherwise believes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, BSV prices were relatively unchanged even as the attack proved the network faces an existential threat. Prices moved from $139 to nearly $134 before being brought up at press time\u2014a move of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">just<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> -4%.
