{"id":195184,"date":"2021-07-17T12:06:28","date_gmt":"2021-07-17T11:06:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=195184"},"modified":"2023-07-25T00:54:51","modified_gmt":"2023-07-24T23:54:51","slug":"after-uk-and-cayman-islands-binance-now-faces-regulatory-concerns-in-italy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/after-uk-and-cayman-islands-binance-now-faces-regulatory-concerns-in-italy\/","title":{"rendered":"After UK and Cayman Islands, Binance now faces regulatory concerns in Italy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Regulatory pressure surrounding Binance keeps increasing as Italy joins the club of jurisdictions that issued notices referring to the biggest crypto exchange by trading volume.<\/p>\n<p>Italian government authority, responsible for regulating the country\u2019s securities market, Commissione Nazionale per le Societ\u00e0 e la Borsa (CONSOB) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.consob.it\/documents\/46180\/46181\/pr_20210715.pdf\/7f78ad2d-a146-4b17-abe8-92efac07f49e\">issued<\/a> a warning that states Binance is unauthorized to provide services in Italy.<\/p>\n<h2>Singled out as unauthorized<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cCompanies of the &#8220;Binance Group&#8221; are not authorized to provide investment services and activities in Italy, not even through the website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.binance.com\">www.binance.com<\/a> whose sections called &#8220;derivatives&#8221; and &#8220;Stock Token&#8221;, relating to instruments related to crypto-assets, were previously also written in Italian,\u201d stated Italy\u2019s securities regulator CONSOB in yesterday\u2019s notice.<\/p>\n<p>Without providing any background for the notice as to why the exchange is being singled out, CONSOB generally invited savers \u201cto make use of their utmost diligence in order to make their investment choices in full awareness, verifying in advance that the websites through which they make the investment can be attributed to authorized subjects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The government authority continued the statement cautioning \u201csavers\u201d about cryptocurrency investments, which \u201cmay imply the total loss of the sums of money invested.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to CONSOB, due to complexity, high volatility of the prices as well as malfunctions and cyber attacks, cryptocurrency investments present \u201cnot immediately perceptible\u201d risks.<\/p>\n<h2>Rapid growth causing problems<\/h2>\n<p>Lately, Binance keeps taking a beating from regulators in several countries, including the United States, Japan, the UK and the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/cayman-islands-joins-in-global-regulatory-attacks-against-binance-what-is-happening\/\">Cayman Islands<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, British banks <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ripple-cto-slams-regulators-as-barclays-blocks-binance-payments\/\">Barclays<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/santander-joins-the-list-of-u-k-banks-banning-binance-payments\/\">Santander<\/a> announced they are preventing customers from making payments to the exchange, while Thailand's financial watchdog <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/thailand-sec-files-criminal-complaint-against-crypto-exchange-binance-2021-07-02\/\">filed<\/a> a criminal complaint against Binance for operating without a licence.<\/p>\n<p>The founder and CEO of Binance, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-bnb-boss-admits-mistakes-have-been-made-looks-to-shore-up-compliance-team\/\">Changpeng Zhao<\/a>, posted a letter in which he admitted the company hadn\u2019t gotten \u201ceverything right\u201d because of its rapid growth, which <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-dumps-stock-tokens-amidst-regulatory-troubles\/\">might<\/a> lose some of its speed due to legal and regulatory issues it faces on numerous fronts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Regulatory pressure surrounding Binance keeps increasing as Italy joins the club of jurisdictions that issued notices referring to the biggest crypto exchange by trading volume.
