(@DocumentingBTC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DocumentingBTC\/status\/1404554918212603906?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 14, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The firm purchased another $500 million worth of Bitcoin this week and is one of the world\u2019s biggest <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hodlers<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. But the mammoth holdings (and exposure to what is arguably one of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">riskiest<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> assets) doesn\u2019t seem to deter the company from adding to its position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe intend to use the net proceeds from the sale of any class A common stock offered under this prospectus for general corporate purposes, including the acquisition of Bitcoin, unless otherwise indicated in the applicable prospectus supplement,\u201d the firm said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The issue of $1 billion shares will be done via a \u2018shelf offering\u2019\u2014which allows a company to issue securities to the public multiple times over a period, based on market conditions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proceeds, if complete, will be used towards \u2018general purposes,\u2019 which may include additional investment in Bitcoin, but the other purposes are unknown as of press time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>A big Bitcoin HODLer<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bitcoin will add to MicroStrategy\u2019s existing stack of 92,000 BTC, all of which is held by a newly formed subsidiary called \u201cMacroStrategy LLC.\u201d The firm sits on over <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/markets.businessinsider.com\/currencies\/news\/microstrategy-bitcoin-purchase-sec-filing-1-billion-shares-michael-saylor-2021-6-1030522753\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$3.6 billion worth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the asset as of today, with CEO Michael Saylor raising another $500 million in a convertible note last week to purchase even more Bitcoin<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company\u2019s so committed to its Bitcoin strategy that its corporate strategy has since been changed to reflect that. \u201cMicroStrategy pursues two corporate strategies in the operation of its business. One strategy is to acquire and hold bitcoin and the other strategy is to grow our enterprise analytics software business,\u201d the firm said in its filing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The firm does, however, estimate the fair amount of financial risks it faces due to its massive Bitcoin exposure. \u201cOur Bitcoin acquisition strategy exposes us to various risks associated with [the asset],\u201d a statement in its filing reads, noting cyber hacks, price fluctuations, and uncertain regulations as some of the downsides.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, the public market isn\u2019t impressed with MicroStrategy's newest development. MSTR shares fell about 1% in after-hours trading.
