Similar intentions came from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/paraguay-joins-the-crypto-train-says-bitcoin-to-the-moon\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paraguay<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> earlier this week, and now Mexico is hurrying to jump on board and legalize crypto.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Coming out of the crypto closet<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In his tweet, Hinojosa, the current Governor of Oaxaca also changed his profile picture to feature the iconic \u201claser eyes,\u201d expressing his support for crypto.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are going to lead the shift to crypto and fintech in Mexico,\u201d said Hinojosa in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/eduardomurat\/status\/1402265047594852354\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tweet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, stating his intention of putting Mexico at the forefront.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Laser eyes are meant to symbolize activation and the growing power of Bitcoin. As such, they became a common way of politicians communicating their support and engagement in crypto legalization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Besides Hinojosa, another government official, Indira Kempis Martinez, a senator representing the state of Nuevo Le\u00f3n, also altered her profile picture and added the symbolic laser eyes. This spurred a lot of curiosity among the crypto community, unable to exactly decipher the symbolic message behind the president\u2019s newest profile picture, wondering if his <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new look <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reflected his affinity for DeFi projects.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Crypto regulation in Mexico<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In March 2018, Mexico <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.globallegalinsights.com\/practice-areas\/blockchain-laws-and-regulations\/mexico\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enacted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a Fintech law that outlined the legal framework applicable to crypto. The law defined cryptocurrencies as representations of value electronically registered, utilized, and transferred by the public as a means of payment. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fintech law granted Mexico's Central Bank (Banxico) regulative power over crypto, exercised through the issuance of secondary regulations.
