While this could result in massive profits, the same is true for losses if the market goes against a leveraged position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhat is shocking is the possibility of using a maximum leverage of 125x on some platforms,\u201d Xinhua wrote, using a screenshot from crypto exchange Binance as an illustration.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>With great profits comes great volatility<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Xinhua argued that for many crypto traders, massive\u2014but fleeting\u2014gains have resulted in an equally rapid loss of investments during the recent market decline. As an example, the outlet cited Liu Peng, ostensibly a \u201ccrypto investment veteran,\u201d who earned more than 100,000 yuan ($15,700) since the beginning of the year\u2014but lost everything in a flash.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI took a 5x leveraged contract of about $39,000. I thought it was completely safe and did not expect liquidation. Nobody thought Bitcoin would fall that much!,\u201d Peng reportedly lamented.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another investor named Zhou told Xinhua that he managed to turn his 500,000 yuan ($78,500) into 3 million yuan ($471,000) in January. However, he lost a significant portion of his profit on May 19\u2014when news from China itself, ironically, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/the-china-crypto-fud-is-back-again-but-its-misleading\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">contributed to the crypto market\u2019s collapse<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Refusing to put up with the losses, Zhou increased his leverage to 10x and \u201cbought the dip\u201d (as he assumed at the moment)\u2014but his position was liquidated just an hour later. \u201cLooking back now, the whole process is like a dream,\u201d he told Xinhua.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Call for supervision<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The agency also highlighted the risk of potential manipulation of the crypto market and argued that local investors often resort to using offshore exchanges to bypass China\u2019s restrictions.
