{"id":186297,"date":"2021-04-06T13:18:45","date_gmt":"2021-04-06T12:18:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=186297"},"modified":"2021-04-06T13:39:31","modified_gmt":"2021-04-06T12:39:31","slug":"a-litecoin-ltc-etp-just-launched-in-switzerland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/a-litecoin-ltc-etp-just-launched-in-switzerland\/","title":{"rendered":"A Litecoin (LTC) ETP just launched in Switzerland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/litecoin\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Litecoin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the world\u2019s ninth-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, will soon see an institutional listing in the form of an exchange-traded product (ETP) in Switzerland, as per a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.co.uk\/news-releases\/coinshares-launches-litecoin-exchange-traded-product-etp-as-it-expands-its-product-offering-839874983.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">press release<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by crypto investment firm CoinShares today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The firm\u2019s investment products provide exposure to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bitcoin (BTC)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ethereum (ETH)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and a Litecoin (LTC) product would now be available to eligible institutional and individual investors throughout Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The details<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Called the \u2018CoinShares Physical Litecoin,\u2019 the product is one of the first-ever Litecoin-based investment products to be launched on a regulated exchange in Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would be listed on the regulated SIX Swiss Exchange under ticker \u2018LITE.\u2019 Each unit of LITE is backed with 0.20 LTC ($46.95) at launch, providing investors with passive exposure to the Litecoin network's native asset.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: CoinShares launches physically-backed <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Litecoin?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Litecoin<\/a> ETP<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Market Meditations (@MrktMeditations) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MrktMeditations\/status\/1379399488687706113?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 6, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the uninitiated, ETPs are institutional products that represent an underlying asset and are traded on the open market similar to equities and bonds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Such products are, currently, one of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">only<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ways for traditional investors to gain exposure to cryptocurrencies\u2014unlike buying <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">spot<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> assets on an unregulated, unreliable crypto exchange.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And while Bitcoin and Ethereum already have similar ETPs in the European market, there are only a few Litecoin-focused ones. But that number is steadily growing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;LITE comes hot on the heels of our Bitcoin and Ethereum product launches in 2021 and will benefit from the same robust and transparent physically-backed product structure,\u201d said CoinShares head of product Townsend Lansing in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Why a Litecoin ETP?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Litecoin has, for long, been termed as the \u2018digital silver\u2019 alternative to Bitcoin (the \u2018digital gold\u2019). It was launched in October 2011\u2014as one of the earliest Bitcoin forks\u2014by ex-Google engineer Charlie Lee and has since grown to become one of the biggest cryptocurrencies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some of its various advantages over Bitcoin are quicker transaction times, lower fees, and faster block times (of 2.5 minutes).
