{"id":179824,"date":"2021-01-13T21:54:01","date_gmt":"2021-01-13T21:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=179824"},"modified":"2024-02-24T19:38:17","modified_gmt":"2024-02-24T19:38:17","slug":"aragon-one-ceo-resigns-after-a-disagreement-over-governance-decisions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/aragon-one-ceo-resigns-after-a-disagreement-over-governance-decisions\/","title":{"rendered":"Aragon One CEO resigns after a disagreement over governance decisions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s new beginnings for Jorge Izquierdo, who would continue to be involved with <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/crypto-exchanges-are-rushing-to-list-aragon-ant-but-what-is-it\/\">Aragon<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> albeit at a community level.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Aragon governance: Gone the other way<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jorge Izquierdo, the co-founder of the internet community and governance protocol <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/aragon\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Aragon<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, announced he was stepping down from the protocol he helped build to be worth over $132 million as of today.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today I resigned as Aragon One&#39;s CEO.<\/p>\n<p>Leading this team has been the privilege and adventure of a lifetime and I am immensely proud of what we achieved.<\/p>\n<p>I feel quite sad that it&#39;s come to this, but given circumstances following, I don&#39;t think I can keep doing a good job.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jorge Izquierdo ? (@izqui9) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/izqui9\/status\/1348685548072923138?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 11, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attributing the decision after being \u201coffline\u201d for two weeks following a doctor's recommendation, Izquierdo said that he was dissatisfied with the way certain community decisions were taken in his absence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhile I was off, a series of decisions were made in the Aragon Association (mainly wrt its governance) that I disagreed both with the decisions themselves and how they were taken,\u201d he said in a tweet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Izquierdo added that there were several proposals put forward to fix the doing, but there was \u201cno willingness to revert or amend these decisions and actions.\u201d He stated, \u201cAs a result, no changes were made. This motivated the team to leave, and it is also the reason why I am resigning.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But despite the departure, Izquierdo said he would continue to be an active member of the Aragon community, push for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">true<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> decentralization, and try to move the project forward using \u201cany necessary means.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Izquierdo attached a note he\u2019d sent the Association to continue to \u201cfight for freedom,\u201d adding that Aragon\u2019s work was larger than life and that it depended on no single entity or individual. \u201cEven today, I can't wait to live in this future. But that\u2019s not an endpoint: Aragon can also be used to create non-decentralized digital organizations as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project is fully open-source and led by the Aragon Foundation based in Switzerland.
