We wish him an exciting new chapter. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DvqiqDVutI\">https:\/\/t.co\/DvqiqDVutI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; block.one (@block_one_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/block_one_\/status\/1348297450197458948?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 10, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Larimer founded Block.one with Blumer in 2017. Its tokens became one of the biggest success stories of that year, finding their way to the top-20 crypto projects by market cap and worth tens of billions of dollars at their peak.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The firm is a software publisher specializing in high-performance blockchain technologies. Its first project, EOSIO, an open-source blockchain protocol designed to enable secure data transfer and high-performance decentralized applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBlock.one today announced that Daniel Larimer, CTO at Block.one, has departed to pursue new personal projects,\u201d the firm said in the post. Co-founder Brandan Blumer said in the regard, \u201cI co-founded Block.one with Dan in 2017, and since then we\u2019ve seen both the industry and the company grow to unprecedented heights,\u201d adding:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>\u201cI\u2019m not alone in being grateful for the contributions Dan has made to date, and I look forward to seeing what he will do next.\u201d<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon the news of the departure, responses from the EOS community on Reddit and Twitter were mixed. <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/eos\/comments\/kufrzs\/pack_it_up_boys_and_girls_the_jig_is_up_dan_quits\/\">One such post<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> read, \u201cDan quits EOS just like everyone that we used to think hated on EOS said he would. Pretty disgusting to see.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDan peaces out with millions from his 3rd flop\/scam. How many times [are] people going to buy this guy's shitcoins?\u201d <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/eos\/comments\/kun7kg\/lol_dan_peaces_out_with_millions_from_his_3rd\/\">read another<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>A tainted past<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before Block.one, Larimer founded BitShares with Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson in 2013, before leaving that company and later founding Steemit (another ICO) in 2017. He has been criticized by the crypto community for the departures\u2014with the monetary benefits, in particular, and the swift departures forming a subject of contention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cayman Islands-based firm, however, met with criticism in early-2018 after it was found that it earned over $4 billion through the illegal, unlicensed sale of its ERC20-based EOS tokens. US regulators even went after the business, before reaching a settlement in the form of a $24 million penalty in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, Block.one\u2019s doing just fine. Blumer said in a post on Sunday, \u201cB1 is building products designed to leverage our #Bitcoin as more than just a store of value, and we have accumulated well beyond our previously announced 140,000 #BTC position.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">B1 is building products designed to leverage our <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Bitcoin?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Bitcoin<\/a> as more than just a store of value, and we have accumulated well beyond our previously announced 140,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BTC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BTC<\/a> position.
