{"id":176050,"date":"2020-11-16T22:07:25","date_gmt":"2020-11-16T22:07:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=176050"},"modified":"2020-11-16T22:07:25","modified_gmt":"2020-11-16T22:07:25","slug":"retail-is-coming-game-of-thrones-star-asks-twitter-if-she-should-long-bitcoin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/retail-is-coming-game-of-thrones-star-asks-twitter-if-she-should-long-bitcoin\/","title":{"rendered":"Retail Is Coming: Game of Thrones star asks Twitter if she should long Bitcoin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It appears that we're in the part of the Bitcoin bull run where celebrities want in on our favorite orange coin.<\/p>\n<p>Joining a number of other prominent celebrities, &#8220;Game of Thrones&#8221; star Maisie Williams recently asked her Twitter followers if she should buy the leading cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<h2>Arya Stark actress asks if she should buy Bitcoin<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm3586035\/\">Williams<\/a>, the actress behind the &#8220;Game of Thrones'&#8221; Arya Stark, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Maisie_Williams\/status\/1328428879334297600\">asked her<\/a> nearly three million followers earlier today if she should &#8220;go long on bitcoin.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Twitter poll asking this question has 80,000 responses thus far: 60% say she should buy BTC, the rest say she shouldn't.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">should i go long on bitcoin ?<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Maisie Williams (@Maisie_Williams) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Maisie_Williams\/status\/1328428879334297600?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 16, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Both her fans and members of the cryptocurrency community have responded to the tweet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/barry-silbert\/\">Barry Silbert<\/a>, CEO Of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/digital-currency-group\/\">Digital Currency Group<\/a>, told Williams to &#8220;check out Grayscale,&#8221; the digital asset fund manager. What's funny about this comment is that in the &#8220;Game of Thrones&#8221; world, there is a disease called Greyscale.<\/p>\n<p>Others in the space have expressed similar enthusiasm.<\/p>\n<p>Some of her fans, though, responded with confusion. Some argued that Bitcoin is &#8220;bad for the planet&#8221; while one of her fans said that they thought the cryptocurrency was just a &#8220;meme.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Williams' comment about Bitcoin comes shortly after other A-list celebrities also expressed their interest in the coin.<\/p>\n<p>Now-retired rapper &#8220;Logic&#8221; made a &#8220;big investment&#8221; in BTC earlier this month, which he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Logic301\/status\/1324792839339999240\">announced<\/a> on Twitter.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My manager <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChrisZarou?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ChrisZarou<\/a> has been bugging me so I finally made a big investment in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Bitcoin?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Bitcoin<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Bobby Bishop (@Logic301) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Logic301\/status\/1324792839339999240?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 6, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>And a few days prior to that, Kanye doubled down on his love for Bitcoin in an interview with Joe Rogan.<\/p>\n<h2>Retail is coming<\/h2>\n<p>Whether or not Williams buys Bitcoin, one thing is for certain: she just exposed hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions, to the cryptocurrency market.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitcoin-is-stable-above-16k-with-little-mainstream-hype-and-its-very-bullish\/\">CryptoSlate reported previously<\/a>, the ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> rally to nearly $17,000 now has been predicated on institutional volumes, with little interest from retail investors. Instead of mom and pop investors buying cryptocurrency, it is firms such as <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/financial-analyst-expects-fireworks-for-bitcoin-in-2021-as-macro-trends-align\/\">Stone Ridge Asset Management<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/asset-manager-microstrategys-425m-bitcoin-bet-may-become-10b-in-a-decade\/\">MicroStrategy<\/a>, along with investors like <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/heres-why-this-billionaire-investor-just-flipped-bullish-on-bitcoin\/\">Stan Druckenmiller<\/a> that are buying Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1668px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/asdadsdas.png\" alt=\"bitcoin google trends\" width=\"1668\" height=\"988\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bitcoin search engine popularity.
