The quick reaction, while celebrated by the user, sparked an important conversation about the centralized nature of some cryptocurrencies and the dangers it poses for the rest of the industry.<\/p>\n<h2>Tether comes to rescue $1 million worth of USDT lost in Swerve<\/h2>\n<p>Swerve Fi, one of the latest DeFi protocols to pop up in the quickly growing <em>fork<\/em> market, has experienced its first controversy earlier today. Namely, screengrabs and testimonials from Twitter showed that one user of the protocol mistakenly sent $1 million worth of USDT to <a href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/tx\/0x02210103aa75edc5b17c4c91bed512640de012b0fc9d4103a795e1b56f332c13\">Swerve\u2019s token contract.<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Swerve Discord is savage tonight. Some guy just sent $1 million to the Swerve token contract and LOST IT ALL. <\/p>\n<p>DeFi ain&#39;t for the faint of heart. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/s1OO84i3dI\">pic.twitter.com\/s1OO84i3dI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Platonic NEET (@Crypto_Plato) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Crypto_Plato\/status\/1303235432755294216?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 8, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>A Twitter user shared excerpts from a Swerve Discord chat, where another user posted a screengrab of a 1,010,808 USDT translation confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>The identity of the user is still unknown, as is the reason why the tokens were sent to Swerve\u2019s token contract in the first place. Swerve is a fork of Curve Finance, a hugely successful DeFi protocol, but with 100 percent of the platform\u2019s governance tokens distributed to the community through liquidity mining and DAO rewards.<\/p>\n<p>And while the crypto community used the opportunity to laugh at what they perceived to be incompetence to deal with DeFi, it seems that the unfortunate trader might get his money back.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/paolo-ardoino\/\">Paolo Ardoino<\/a>, the CTO of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/tether\/\">Tether<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/bitfinex\/\">Bitfinex<\/a>, called on the trader to open a ticket with Tether\u2019s support service in order to get the transaction sorted out. According to Ardoino, getting lost transactions back usually <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/paoloardoino\/status\/1303280335086641153\">takes<\/a> \u201ca couple of weeks\u201d and retrieving USDT from token contract addresses is not an issue for Tether.<\/p>\n<p>And while unlucky users celebrated Tether\u2019s ability to intervene in situations like this, the other side of the crypto community wasn\u2019t all too happy with the way this issue was handled.
