While hailed as the future, these platforms failed to garner much support from cryptocurrency traders, who then preferred the cost and time efficiency of centralized platforms.<\/p>\n<p>But over the past few months, as decentralized finance (DeFi) has gone parabolic, DEXs have become a popular product. So popular that Uniswap, the most popular Ethereum-based trading platform, has reported that it processes in excess of 100,000 transactions a day.<\/p>\n<h2>Uniswap alone processes 35% of Bitcoin's daily transaction count<\/h2>\n<p>In recent weeks, many traders have abandoned the tried-and-true strategy of leverage trading cryptocurrencies for <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/products\/uniswap\/\">Uniswap<\/a>. The exchange, after all, is where many DeFi tokens are first listed, meaning Uniswap is often the only major source of liquidity for many new Ethereum-based projects.<\/p>\n<p>This has meant that as DeFi has undergone a Cambrian explosion in recent weeks, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/uniswap-mania-crypto-investors-chase-massive-gains-as-hundreds-of-new-tokens-surface\/\">Uniswap has been the place to be for many traders seeking potential parabolic gains.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hayden Adams, the founder of Uniswap, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/haydenzadams\/status\/1292473660771532802\">indicated<\/a> on Aug. 9 that Uniswap has seen such interest that it now processes over 100,000 transactions every day. This amounts to around 1.2 transactions every second. For context, Bitcoin processes around 325,000 transactions a day at around 3.6 transactions per second.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">???????????<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/UniswapProtocol?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@UniswapProtocol<\/a> V2 just passed 100,000 daily transactions (or ~1.2 TPS)<\/p>\n<p>? (@haydenzadams) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/haydenzadams\/status\/1292473660771532802?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 9, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>With these 100,000+ transactions a day, Uniswap is processing upwards of $100 million worth of volume per day. Coinbase Pro, on the other hand, does around $500 million worth of volume each day.<\/p>\n<p>There may be room for Uniswap to grow, despite it already accounting for a large percentage of the gas consumed by the Ethereum network each day.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/the-launch-of-this-ethereum-token-could-put-defi-into-another-frenzy\/\">reported by CryptoSlate previously<\/a>, Curve, a stablecoin-focused decentralized exchange, is set to soon release a governance token called CRV. Details about the cryptocurrency are sparse as it has not yet launched. Spencer Noon, head of DTC Capital, though, has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/spencernoon\/status\/1291372545179099136\">said<\/a> that the coin could have implications for all of Ethereum and DeFi:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cCat\u2019s out of the bag, this is correct. $CRV is likely the next big domino to fall that puts #DeFi back in a frenzy. That\u2019s what happens when you\u2019re critical infrastructure for farms, have huge daily volumes, plus a lean cap table. Watch 2nd order effects of this launch closely\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Funding secured<\/h2>\n<p>Uniswap's parabolic uptick in adoption comes as the company finished an $11 million funding round.<\/p>\n<p>As indicated in a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1775180\/000177518020000001\/xslFormDX01\/primary_doc.xml\">Form D submission<\/a> to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the team behind Uniswap raised that sum in Series A funding. The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz, with other investors like USV, Paradigm, Parafi Capital, and other firms chipping in.<\/p>\n<p>The Uniswap team <a href=\"https:\/\/uniswap.org\/blog\/uniswap-raise\/\">will be<\/a> using these funds to hire more developers and team members, allowing Uniswap V3 to be built out.
