{"id":140616,"date":"2020-07-31T03:40:42","date_gmt":"2020-07-31T02:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=140616"},"modified":"2020-08-01T01:58:07","modified_gmt":"2020-08-01T00:58:07","slug":"why-one-vc-expects-ethereum-to-continue-gaining-value-against-btc-in-coming-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/why-one-vc-expects-ethereum-to-continue-gaining-value-against-btc-in-coming-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Why one VC expects Ethereum to continue gaining value against BTC in coming years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ethereum has gained some notable ground against Bitcoin since the start of the year, which is reflected in the cryptocurrency\u2019s BTC trading pair\u2019s value.<\/p>\n<p>A good portion of its gains against <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> have come about throughout the past couple of weeks, as ETH has been caught within a strong uptrend that may have been the impetus for the latest market-wide rally.<\/p>\n<p>One crypto-focused venture capitalist is now noting that historical market cycles seen between Ethereum and Bitcoin are likely to continue directing significant amounts of capital towards ETH \u2013 possibly allowing it to outperform BTC over a macro time frame.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Ethereum continues gaining value against Bitcoin<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Since the start of 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a> has outperformed Bitcoin by over 60 percent, climbing from 0.018 BTC in early-January to its current price of 0.029 BTC.<\/p>\n<p>This has been driven by a confluence of factors, including the DeFi sector\u2019s growth, yield farming, ETH 2.0 anticipation, and some hype surrounding EIP-1559.<\/p>\n<p>All of these factors have given rise to a plethora of narratives regarding the macro strength of the second-largest cryptocurrency \u2013 and there is some merit to them.<\/p>\n<p>Although musings about ETH 2.0\u2019s launch and the potential passing of EIP-1559 both remain speculative, there\u2019s no questioning that the DeFi sector has driven value to Ethereum.<\/p>\n<p>This can be seen while looking towards the transaction volume, fees, and network participation on the Ethereum blockchain.<\/p>\n<p>It has also led to direct inflows of capital into ETH, as many users transact between DeFi tokens using Ethereum on platforms like Uniswap and Curve.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Historic market cycles likely to drive ETH's price higher, claims VC<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/chris-burniske\/\">Chris Burniske<\/a>, a partner at Placeholder, explained in a recent tweet thread that there is a striking connection between Ethereum and Bitcoin\u2019s market cycles \u2013 with the two assets feeding into each other.<\/p>\n<p>While explaining the cycles, he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cburniske\/status\/1288869272706404352\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSince ETH is more illiquid & higher risk than BTC, it tends to overshoot BTC's gains in a bull market, ultimately ending up higher than it started in ETHBTC terms&#8230; then allowing more BTC to be bought with ETH, and so the cycle continues.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cburniske\/status\/1288897979462627329\">concluded<\/a> that this\u00a0will result in Ethereum gaining value against Bitcoin over a long-time frame.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAnd then since September 2019, ETH has been gaining against BTC, with a breakout above 0.025 BTC in the last week.
