{"id":131945,"date":"2020-04-29T09:30:48","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T08:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=131945"},"modified":"2020-04-29T08:30:30","modified_gmt":"2020-04-29T07:30:30","slug":"circulating-supply-data-signals-xrp-may-be-undervalued-analysts-remain-skeptical","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/circulating-supply-data-signals-xrp-may-be-undervalued-analysts-remain-skeptical\/","title":{"rendered":"Circulating supply data signals XRP may be undervalued; analysts remain skeptical"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s no secret that XRP has been one of the worst-performing cryptocurrencies throughout both 2019 and even 2020, incurring a significant 40 percent loss against USD last year while failing to catch the full momentum seen by its peers in the early part of 2020.<\/p>\n<p>This price action has been driven by a plethora of different reasons \u2013 including the crypto\u2019s massive circulating supply, large quarterly token sales <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/ripple\/\">from Ripple<\/a>, and a lack of proven utility.<\/p>\n<p>There is some hope for embattled investors who are looking for an opportunity to exit their <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/xrp\/\">XRP<\/a> positions, however, as data regarding the actual circulating supply being significantly lower than its reported circulating supply indicates that it may be undervalued.<\/p>\n<h2>XRP\u2019s actual circulating supply may be lower than reported<\/h2>\n<p>XRP has seen some tempered momentum today, climbing over 6 percent as Bitcoin and the aggregated crypto market continue consolidating.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to note that the cryptocurrency is now surmounting its key resistance around $0.20, and a sustained hold above this level could prove to be extremely bullish for it.<\/p>\n<p>One fundamental development that could bolster the crypto further in the near-term comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/coinmetrics\/status\/1255164369870217216\">a recent update<\/a> from analytics platform <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/coin-metrics\/\">Coin Metrics<\/a>, in which they note that the actual circulating XRP supply may be 30 billion.<\/p>\n<p>This is a significantly lower number than the reported 44 billion that has played into the token\u2019s valuation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cApplying the Coin Metrics Free Float Supply Methodology to XRP indicates that there are 30B of a total 100B XRP that are available for trading within the market.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_131946\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-131946\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-131946 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/XRPCoinmetrics-1024x860.jpg\" alt=\"XRP\" width=\"1024\" height=\"860\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/XRPCoinmetrics-1024x860.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/XRPCoinmetrics-300x252.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/XRPCoinmetrics-768x645.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/XRPCoinmetrics.jpg 1330w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-131946\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image Courtesy of Coinmetrics<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Analysts still wary about the token\u2019s value<\/h2>\n<p>Although from a purely technical standpoint a lower-than-expected circulating supply is bullish, analysts still believe that the cryptocurrency may never see a full recovery back towards its all-time highs.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/even-after-94-crash-analyst-warns-xrp-may-not-ever-rally-again-heres-why\/\">CryptoSlate reported<\/a> yesterday, one analyst named Cantering Clark recently explained that lots of tokens with \u201cpromising tech\u201d will never be able to recover from the technical damage done by the multi-year bear market \u2013 XRP included.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cHere are just a few of the hundreds of 10-year charts you can find for \u2018promising tech\u2019. See a similarity?
