{"id":123129,"date":"2020-01-17T10:00:44","date_gmt":"2020-01-17T10:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=123129"},"modified":"2020-01-17T08:09:49","modified_gmt":"2020-01-17T08:09:49","slug":"this-technical-formation-could-mean-ethereum-is-in-for-massive-short-term-upside","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/this-technical-formation-could-mean-ethereum-is-in-for-massive-short-term-upside\/","title":{"rendered":"This technical formation could mean Ethereum is in for massive short-term upside"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has grown increasingly unclear in recent times as to whether or not the aftermath of the recent uptrend seen by Bitcoin and major altcoins like Ethereum (ETH) marks any type of fundamental shift in market structure, or if it is simply another lower-high that will be followed by further losses.<\/p>\n<p>In spite of this lack of clarity, analysts are now pointing to some bourgeoning technical patterns for guidance as to where the markets will trend next.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of Ethereum, these technical signs seem to favor the cryptocurrency\u2019s bulls, as they may signal that it will soon see some further upwards momentum.<\/p>\n<h2>Ethereum inches lower as it closely tracks Bitcoin<\/h2>\n<p>At the time of writing, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/video-app-to-reward-users-with-bitcoin-ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a> is trading down nominally at its <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">current price<\/a> of $165, and it appears to be closely tracking Bitcoin\u2019s price action as the markets attempt to establish some momentum.<\/p>\n<p>Despite facing a swift rejection at highs of over $170 earlier this week, ETH has been able to maintain some stability within the $160 region and it appears to be in a consolidation phase that could be followed by a major movement.<\/p>\n<p>One technical factor that should be considered in the near-term is that Ethereum appears to be currently trading within a bull flag, which could mean that this bout of sideways trading will be followed by a massive upwards movement.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEthereum: What was a bullish pennant, now perhaps a bull flag. Volume decreasing, textbook for a pennant,\u201d Mr. Jozza, a prominent cryptocurrency analyst on Twitter, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MrJozza\/status\/1217955682852515842\">explained<\/a> while pointing to the chart seen below.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_123130\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-123130\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-123130 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/MrJozzaBTC-1024x691.png\" alt=\"Ethereum ETH\" width=\"1024\" height=\"691\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/MrJozzaBTC-1024x691.png 1024w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/MrJozzaBTC-300x202.png 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/MrJozzaBTC-768x518.png 768w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/MrJozzaBTC.png 1406w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-123130\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image Courtesy of Mr. Jozza<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>These factors could bolster eth\u2019s bulls and perpetuate a major upside swing<\/h2>\n<p>The bull flag that Ethereum is currently in the process of forming isn\u2019t the only factor currently counting in the favor of the cryptocurrency\u2019s bulls, as Bitcoin Jack \u2013 another prominent analyst \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BTC_JackSparrow\/status\/1217887197191376896\">pointed out<\/a> a few other key factors that should be considered by investors.<\/p>\n<p>He notes that ETH has been able to break its volume downtrend and has been able to flip its previous resistance level into a support level \u2013 two factors that suggest it will soon see notable upside.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cETH vs BTC daily chart update: Volume down-trend broken on sharp move up. Rejection of resistance was met with flipping old local resistance in to support. If price can breach into old range above, target 1 becomes viable quickly.
