Despite the upswing, this cryptocurrency lost a significant portion of the gains it made. Now, several technical indicators estimate a steeper correction.<\/p>\n<h2>XRP derivatives on Binance<\/h2>\n<p>On Jan. 6, the world\u2019s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume Binance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/support\/articles\/360038497311\">announced<\/a> the introduction of XRP perpetual contracts. The contracts are paired against <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/tether\/\">Tether<\/a> (USDT) and users can trade it with up to 75x leverage.<\/p>\n<p>Although futures contracts pose an extreme level of risk, they have the potential to generate a massive amount of profits for traders. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/changpeng-zhao\/\">Changpeng Zhao<\/a>, Binance\u2019s CEO, the high leverage on these contracts offer professional traders an efficient way to trade very quickly, both in terms of cost and performance.<\/p>\n<p>Following the announcement, XRP skyrocketed nearly 16 percent. Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/brad-garlinghouse\/\">Brad Garlinghouse<\/a>, the CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/ripple\/\">Ripple<\/a>, addressed the crypto community and investors about a number of concerns that have been raised about XRP over the last year.<\/p>\n<h2>Ripple \u201ccan\u2019t control XRP price\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/XRP_2020\/status\/1213584892992327681\">interview<\/a> with CNN, Garlinghouse said that Ripple is interested in the success of XRP dismissing the allegations that the company has been \u201cdumping\u201d their holdings.<\/p>\n<p>Garlinghouse affirmed:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cRipple owns a lot of XRP, we\u2019re very interested in the success of XRP, but the accusations of us dumping, that\u2019s not in our best interests to do that. We are clearly interested in a healthy and successful ecosystem. So, we would never do that and in fact, we have taken steps to lock up most of the XRP we own in escrows so we cannot touch it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Garlinghouse also highlighted the fact that some financial institutions have bought large amounts of XRP, but they have lock-ups that prevent them from \u201cdumping on the market.\u201d He concluded by addressing the notion of market manipulation stating that \u201cRipple cannot control the price of XRP.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the positive sentiment that sparked around this crypto, it plunged nearly 8 percent in the last 15 hours signaling a further decline.<\/p>\n<h2>XRP technical analysis<\/h2>\n<p>The TD sequential indicator is currently presenting a sell signal in the form of a green nine on XRP\u2019s 12-hour chart. Closing below the 100-twelve-hour moving average could add credibility to the bearish signal. If this happens, then XRP could be bound for a nosedive that takes it back to the 50-twelve-hour moving average at $0.198.<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, a spike in the buying pressure behind XRP could jeopardize the bearish outlook. This crypto would have to close above the setup trendline and the 128-twelve-hour moving average to trigger an increase in demand. Such a bullish impulse would likely be followed by a further advance to test the 200-twelve-hour moving average at $0.246.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 2394px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/x\/T28RScQ4\/\" alt=\"XRP US dollar price chart\" width=\"2394\" height=\"1227\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/chart\/XRPUSD\/\">XRP\/USD<\/a> by TradingView<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It is worth noting that from a long term perspective XRP seems bullish. The TD sequential indicator is on a red nine candlestick on the 1-week chart, which is a buy signal.
