The move comes in response to the increasing interest and usage of cryptocurrencies in the country.<\/p>\n<p>A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/customercloud\/global-consumer-survey\">study<\/a>\u00a0by Statista determined that one in five Turks had \u201cused or currently owned cryptocurrencies.\u201d The German statistics firm ranked Turkey on the No. 1 spot among all nations in the world where the use of crypto assets is common.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 960px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.statcdn.com\/Infographic\/images\/normal\/18345.jpeg\" alt=\"Statista Global Consumer Survey\" width=\"960\" height=\"684\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Statista Global Consumer Survey<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Although over 16 million Turks have touched cryptocurrencies in the last ten years, the country lacks a legal regulatory framework for the use of these digital assets. The high risk involved in handling cryptocurrency has raised concerns among public institutions and authorities. As a result, the CMB is now \u201cworking rapidly\u201d to propose new rules and regulations for this market, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyet.com.tr\/ekonomi\/kripto-paralara-spk-denetimi-41412081\">H\u00fcrriyet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The report reads:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cDue to the fact that these large-scale assets could be used for manipulative purposes and had no intrinsic value\u2026 [Authorities] decided to carry out an examination and regulation of crypto assets and intermediaries in order to prevent this and to prevent possible grievances.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The CMB is allegedly preparing to address some of the most common concerns about the cryptocurrency industry, including taxation, malicious actors, market manipulation, and cryptocurrency exchanges.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/event\/istanblock-2020\/\">Istanbul Blockchain Week<\/a> founder and EAK Digital CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/erhan-korhaliller\/\">Erhan Korhaliller<\/a> noted:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;By providing legal certainty surrounding cryptocurrencies in Turkey, the Capital Markets Board(CMB) is laying the groundwork in which to enable cryptocurrency projects to build and thrive within Turkey.
