{"id":119573,"date":"2019-11-26T10:07:39","date_gmt":"2019-11-26T10:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=119573"},"modified":"2026-04-25T06:17:48","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T05:17:48","slug":"ripple-signs-remittance-provider-transfergo-to-use-ripplenet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ripple-signs-remittance-provider-transfergo-to-use-ripplenet\/","title":{"rendered":"Ripple signs remittance provider TransferGo to use RippleNet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TransferGo, an online remittance platform pitched at migrant workers, has entered into a new agreement with <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/ripple\/\">Ripple<\/a> to use the company\u2019s technology for cross-border transfers to and from Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Ripple announced the new deal in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripple.com\/insights\/transfergo-partners-with-ripple-to-offer-global-real-time-payments-everywhere-to-everyone\/\">blog post<\/a> on Monday, stating London-based TransferGo will use RippleNet to facilitate cross-border payments, although it isn\u2019t explicit that the remittance firm will initially leverage XRP for transactions. The post stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;[The CEO of TransferGo] acknowledges that by 2020, even a few minutes will be too slow, which is why TransferGo is looking to use RippleNet\u2019s On-Demand Liquidity with XRP as an alternative to pre-funding.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Like its larger competitor TransferWise, TransferGo uses an account-to-account \u201cpre-funding\u201d model to facilitate international transfers with funds being paid in and out using local bank accounts\u2014but the payments company says this system has its limitations. According to the Ripple announcement, the fragmentation of technology amongst TransferGo\u2019s banking partners has led to costs and scalability issues, with the firm having to undergo a \u201cbespoke integration\u201d with new financial institutions every time it opens a new remittance corridor.<\/p>\n<p>RippleNet's pitch is that it allows for a single, standardized point of access into a global collection of payment providers and financial institutions, and reduces payments costs by eliminating the need for pre-funded foreign accounts.<\/p>\n<h2>RippleNet gaining traction, can its success be reflected in XRP price?<\/h2>\n<p>The price of XRP, down 90+ percent from its all-time high in January 2018, seems to have remained remarkably indifferent to the recent flurry of RippleNet signups.
