Purportedly, the asset increases the overall performance and reduces the risk reward profile of portfolios.<\/p>\n<h2>On the same page as most of the cryptosphere<\/h2>\n<p>Bitcoin proponents will recognize many of VanEck\u2019s theses, asserting that BTC has the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/finance-professor-predicts-bitcoin-will-emerge-as-digital-gold\/\">potential to become \u201cdigital gold<\/a>.\u201d The firm also highlights Bitcoin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/could-bitcoins-halving-push-its-price-to-55000-one-quant-thinks-so\/\">\u201cscarcity-driven\u201d growth<\/a>, its <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/data-indicates-bitcoin-price-uncorrelated-stock-market\/\">non-correlation with traditional assets<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitcoin-transaction-volume-tops-paypal-creeps-up-on-visa\/\">network transfer value<\/a>, and impressive <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitcoin-best-performing-asset-2019\/\">historical performance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/UkPYM3CleUj_mvjGq-uxm2MU1ARiZBbxDgPWQ-RCnstbwx9smWAfPIaPiLw2u_u5LrT3azA6JAdKcBYlR5_g_xqeC6Vpk1ohHrTFXDJjSdbK_NORvq_8LpqiFuFX0s2DhBasqn8X\" alt=\"Bitcoin Allocation May Improve Portfolio Upside\" width=\"1600\" height=\"975\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vaneck.com\/globalassets\/home\/us\/blogs\/bm-blog-categories\/vaneck-digital-assets--the-investment-case-for-bitcoin.pdf\">VanEck<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The report is essentially a rehash of several well-formed hypotheses that have circulated for years in the cryptocurrency community. Yet, VanEck\u2019s findings may carry particular weight with institutional investors in light of the firm\u2019s success as an early gold bull, manifested today by its roughly $40 billion under management spread between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etf.com\/channels\/vaneck-etfs\">57 ETFs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>VanEck, an early gold bull<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaneck.com\/about-vaneck\/about-us\/\">According<\/a> to CEO Jan van Eck, his father saw great success after selling 80 percent of the firm\u2019s stock positions to launch the United States\u2019 first gold equity fund\u2014a highly unorthodox move in 1968, given that at the time gold\u2019s price was fixed to $35 per ounce to serve as a peg for the U.S. Dollar under the gold standard.<\/p>\n<p>When President Nixon broke the dollar\u2019s peg in 1971, gold\u2019s value exploded in the open market\u2014being bought up at large as a hedge against inflation. Due to his father\u2019s foresight, Jan van Eck said VanEck\u2019s flagship gold fund became one of the best-performing funds of the day. Van Eck seems to think the opportunity lies in Bitcoin this time around. In 2018, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaneck.com\/about-vaneck\/about-us\/\">stated<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEven now we\u2019re looking at digital assets and Bitcoin, and I said that gold was kind of the Bitcoin of its time\u2014when Dad started the gold fund, people thought (I\u2019m sure they thought) he was nuts.
