{"id":112368,"date":"2019-08-23T02:34:15","date_gmt":"2019-08-23T09:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=112368"},"modified":"2019-08-24T03:52:49","modified_gmt":"2019-08-24T10:52:49","slug":"securitize-gets-approval-from-sec-to-become-first-crypto-securities-record-keeper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/securitize-gets-approval-from-sec-to-become-first-crypto-securities-record-keeper\/","title":{"rendered":"Securitize gets approval from SEC to become first crypto securities record-keeper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>San Fransisco-based digital securities issuing platform <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/securitize\/\">Securitize<\/a> became the first \u201cblockchain-focused agent\u201d to get SEC approval.\u00a0 The company said this will enable the company to be an official keeper of records for all digital securities registered with the SEC, positioning it as a one-stop digital securities service provider, said the company to CryptoSlate.<\/p>\n<h2>Securitize receives SEC approval to record stock transfers<\/h2>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/coinbase\">Coinbase<\/a>-backed tech startup has received the approval of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to act as an official record keeper for all registered digital securities. <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/elevated-returns-and-securitize-make-a-security-token-push-in-thailand\/\">Securitize<\/a> announced the news in a press release shared with CryptoSlate, saying it has become the first blockchain-focused agent to receive SEC approval.<\/p>\n<p>The company, which operates a platform for issuing and managing compliant digital securities on a blockchain, said the SEC certificate will enable it to trade these securities on SEC-registered alternative trading systems (ATS), including Open Finance Network, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/tzero\/\">tZERO<\/a>, and Sharespost.<\/p>\n<p>Being a registered transfer agent, Securitize will keep a real-time cap table of a firm\u2019s investors. The company will also be able to offer corporate services to securities issuers, including the payment of dividends and interest, conducting shareholder votes, and facilitating share buybacks.<\/p>\n<h2>Increased security and transparency<\/h2>\n<p>Securitize becoming a registered transfer agent will help bring more transparency into the space. The SEC has been <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-issues-no-action-letter-ethereum-quarters-crypto\/\">waging a war<\/a> against crypto and blockchain companies who have failed to register their digital tokens as securities, filing several lawsuits and issuing an <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?s=sec\">ever-growing<\/a> number of fines in the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>Increased regulatory pressure created a perfect space for Securitize to position itself.
