{"id":110624,"date":"2019-07-25T02:13:43","date_gmt":"2019-07-25T09:13:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=110624"},"modified":"2020-04-06T01:18:59","modified_gmt":"2020-04-06T00:18:59","slug":"quasar-hard-fork-bitcoin-sv-upgrades-block-size-to-2gb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/quasar-hard-fork-bitcoin-sv-upgrades-block-size-to-2gb\/","title":{"rendered":"Quasar hard fork: Bitcoin SV upgrades block size to 2GB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A planned hard fork has been executed on <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin-sv\/\">Bitcoin SV<\/a> (BSV) despite deliberation over the timing of the scheduled upgrade, dubbed \u201cQuasar\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The fork has upped the protocol\u2019s block size limit from 128MB to 2GB\u2014a development that <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinassociation.net\/bitcoin-sv-quasar-protocol-upgrade\/\">according<\/a> to the owners of the BSV project, Bitcoin Association, will help BSV scale to \u201c1000+ transactions per second\u201d within months.<\/p>\n<h2>Questions over timing<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/bitmex\">BitMEX Research<\/a> described discrepancies over the fork\u2019s timing in a tweet hours before its occurrence\u2014announcing it would occur at 2pm GMT as per Quasar\u2019s code on GitHub; contrary to Bitcoin Association\u2019s original <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinassociation.net\/bsv-weekly-update-24th-july-2019\/?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=SocialSignIn&utm_content=BA+Content\">claim<\/a> it would occur at \u201capproximately\u201d 1pm GMT.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Bitcoin SV is expected to hardfork today at around 14:00 UTC. The Genesis upgrade, planned for February 2020, will altogether remove the block size limit for the 8th-largest blockchain protocol by market capitalization.<\/p>\n<p>Yet Quasar\u2019s apparent technological success would not likely to bring BSV any closer to earning its self-professed title of the \u201coriginal Bitcoin\u201d.
