The move is unprecedented, with the exchange burning $2.5 billion in tokens at current prices.<\/p>\n<h2>Binance will burn 80 million BNB worth $2.5 billion<\/h2>\n<p>Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (\u2018CZ\u2019) announced in his latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EnchfT80XV0\">AMA<\/a> (\u201cask me anything\u201d) that his company will burn its entire allocation of BNB.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Binance AMA With CZ: Highlights\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EnchfT80XV0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Binance initially generated 200 million BNB during its ICO, with 40 percent of those tokens allocated to the team\u201480 million BNB. At current prices these tokens are valued at $2.5 billion.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe are not going to cash a penny of that out,\u201d said Zhao excitedly, \u201cwe\u2019re going to burn it all.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When added to the tokens previously scheduled for burn, the total supply of BNB will ultimately be reduced from 200 million to 100 million BNB, boding well for holders.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEverything considered, we want to give back more to the community and we also think that\u2019s best for the BNB token. At this stage, we want to increase the utility of the token and have more people use it, than just say we want to increase the revenue for Binance.com,\u201d said Zhao in the AMA.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The team unanimously supported the decision, said CZ, \u201cthat shows that Binance is here for a mission, we\u2019re not here for money. I think that should boost the confidence of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The burn would put the dominant exchange\u2019s position closer to other crypto-projects without pre-mines or initial token allotments, a point of contention for many in the crypto-community who allege companies which have large initial allotments care more about enriching themselves at the expense of holders.<\/p>\n<p>For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/ripple\/\">Ripple<\/a> owns 55 billion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/xrp\/\">XRP<\/a> tokens some of its founders created\u2014worth $19 billion at current prices\u2014diluting holder value by $535 million through market sales over the course of 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, even though the team no longer will hold tokens, Zhao asserts the incentives between users and the exchange will still remain well aligned. Binance will still be one of the largest holders of BNB, the difference is that any tokens the exchange owns will have been earned through it services or purchased from holders directly.<\/p>\n<p>Changpeng Zhao remains committed to finding ways to increase the price and value of BNB, he asserted during the AMA. And, the markets agreed, with the token surging from $29.02 to $32.45\u2014an 11.8 percent increase\u2014three hours following the announcement.<\/p>\n<h2>Fees on Binance will remain low<\/h2>\n<p>Zhao also had other good news for token holders. Binance will continue its 25 percent fee discount for trading on Binance.com when using BNB to pay for trading fees. According to the company\u2019s whitepaper, the discount was scheduled to go from 25 to 12.5 percent on July 14.<\/p>\n<p>This is in line with the exchange\u2019s past initiatives, with the coin already having<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-announces-28-new-use-cases-bnb\/\"> 80 plus utility cases<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Progress on margin trading and futures<\/h2>\n<p>Binance also launched its margin trading platform on July 11, with over 10,000 people signing up to trade derivatives on the platform. So far, $15 million have been borrowed through the service, said Zhao.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Changpeng Zhao announced that the company will soon launch futures trading, similar to the popular Bitcoin XBT\/USD contracts offered on <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/bitmex\/\">BitMEX<\/a>.
