{"id":109246,"date":"2019-07-02T23:22:20","date_gmt":"2019-07-03T06:22:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=109246"},"modified":"2019-11-25T06:48:09","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T06:48:09","slug":"binance-appoints-ripple-executive-lead-us-crypto-exchange","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-appoints-ripple-executive-lead-us-crypto-exchange\/","title":{"rendered":"Binance appoints former Ripple executive to lead US crypto exchange initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/binance\">Binance<\/a> appointed the former head of institutional liquidity at <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/ripple\">Ripple<\/a> as the lead for the exchange's upcoming U.S. crypto exchange operator, BAM trading services.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@BAM_Trading\/binance-us-operator-bam-announces-former-ripple-executive-as-ceo-add491fb513\">press release<\/a> made by BAM Tuesday, the new CEO Catherine Coley will head up the launch of Binance\u2019s recently announced outpost in North America, Binance.US, and subsequently BAM\u2019s \u201cmarket expansion\u201d in the continent.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">1\/ Excited to serve as the CEO of BAM Trading Services, the operator of <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/NDRVQIXfNf\">https:\/\/t.co\/NDRVQIXfNf<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BinanceAmerica?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BinanceAmerica<\/a> ?? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sJeuEpCBlh\">https:\/\/t.co\/sJeuEpCBlh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Catherine Coley (@cryptocoley) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cryptocoley\/status\/1146065626886111232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 2, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>BAM highlighted Coley\u2019s dedication \u201cto improving global access to digital assets\u201d\u2014the new chief whip having worked in institutional FX for Morgan Stanley and Silicon Valley Bank prior to joining Ripple.<\/p>\n<h2>Binance: On the road to regulation<\/h2>\n<p>Coley\u2019s appointment comes on the tail of Binance\u2019s mid-June <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-to-block-customers-in-the-united-states-from-trading-plans-to-launch-binance-us-soon\/\">revelation<\/a> that it would be blocking U.S.-based users from its global exchange and instead servicing them with a fully regulated, local, fiat-to-crypto platform.<\/p>\n<p>The move may be seen as a major breakthrough in Binance\u2019s aspirations for global conquest, with CEO <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/changpeng-zhao\">Changpeng \u2018CZ\u2019 Zhao<\/a> having <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/binance-ceo-i-dont-understand-why-the-bitcoin-price-isnt-shooting-through-the-roof\/\">suggested<\/a> as recently as September his major crypto exchange had little interest in winning over regulators in the North American market.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, Binance has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/blog\/346119082624540672\/Binance-Announces-Partnership-with-BAM-to-Launch-US-Exchange\">light on details<\/a> on how its new FinCEN-registered partner BAM will operate, assuring that more information will be released on how Coley\u2019s firm will help \u201cserve the U.S. market in full regulatory compliance\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>To Zhao, Coley may be a steady sign that Binance is ready for North American regulation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Our community is very lucky to have someone as passionate, versatile, and hardworking as Coley to lead Binance.US.
