Binance (@cz_binance) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cz_binance\/status\/1140620581856927744?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 17, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The debut token, Bitcoin-pegged \u2018BTCB,\u2019 will list on Binance.com within \u201ca day or so\u201d tradable against BTC, and will also be proposed for listing on Binance DEX, the exchange <a href=\"https:\/\/www.binance.com\/en\/blog\/347360878904684544\/Introducing-BitcoinPegged-Token-on-Binance-Chain\">said<\/a> Tuesday in a blog post.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement sheds light on a tweet issued Monday by the exchange\u2019s CEO <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/changpeng-zhao\">Changpeng Zhao<\/a>, who forewarned 9,001 BTC was to be transferred out of a Binance hot wallet \u201cfor a good thing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">There will be a transfer of 9001 BTC soon, no need to FUD. Binance (@cz_binance) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cz_binance\/status\/1140587447983624198?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 17, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Binance disclosed BTCB\u2019s reserve addresses on both the <a href=\"https:\/\/explorer.binance.org\/asset\/BTCB-1DE\">Binance Chain<\/a> and Bitcoin blockchains, reflecting the new token\u2019s 9,001 <a href=\"https:\/\/btc.com\/3LYJfcfHPXYJreMsASk2jkn69LWEYKzexb\">BTC backing<\/a> ($83 million). This will make BTCB the 84th-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization upon launch.<\/p>\n<h2>Tethered on Blockchain<\/h2>\n<p>Binance stated the reserve addresses will be listed for all pegged BEP2 tokens \u201cfor anyone to audit\u201d on the blockchain, and that a trade system will ensure \u201c100% backing\u201d at all times. The post explains:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIf this buy order is filled, a new order will be placed while an equal amount of funds will be deposited from the reserve address into Binance.com. The sum of the buy order and the funds on the published reserve address will be bigger than the total supply of the pegged token, ensuring there is always 100% backing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Binance, such an arrangement provides a level of systemic transparency that a fiat-pegged token cannot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/tether\">Tether<\/a>, the company behind the first and largest USD-backed cryptocurrency by market capitalization, has for years grappled with <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/tethers-billion-dollar-reserves-may-not-equate-backing-no-misconduct\/\">allegations of insolvency<\/a> over auditing issues\u2014and in February ultimately revealed only <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/tether-and-bitfinex-confirm-usdt-is-not-fully-backed-by-fiat-only-74-of-tethers-backed-with-cash\/\">74 percent of its USDT tokens were backed with dollars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To Binance, which ranks consistently in the top 5 by adjusted volume globally, the pegged tokens will bolster the trading volume, liquidity, and utility of its recently-launched decentralized exchange, which currently ranks <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/rankings\/exchanges\/\">72nd<\/a> by daily volume.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Binance announced the launch of native Binance Chain BEP2 tokens pegged to top cryptocurrencies \u201cin the coming days,\u201d starting with Bitcoin.
