The patent is a continuation of an application filed in November of 2018.<\/p>\n<p>According to the company, the system represents time-based scores using a value called the \u201cDragon Days of Slumber Score\u201d (DDSS). The model shares some similarities with proof-of-elapsed-time based consensus (PoET), which is also used in some permissioned enterprise blockchains.<\/p>\n<p>DDSS has applications in digital assets and loyalty rewards by hardening a blockchain against tampering and gaming by bad actors, said Dragonchain. <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/joe-roets\/\">Joe Roets<\/a>, founder and CEO of Dragonchain said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<span class=\"s1\">When you look at existing loyalty programs, the rewards are not proportionate to someone\u2019s actual loyalty. For example, airline rewards are often based on using a credit card to accumulate points, rather than rewarding the time someone has flown with an airline.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">By monetizing time with blockchain, DDSS creates a new type of value system to recognize true loyalty through immutable measurement.<\/span><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The patent is the most recent addition to a \u201clong list\u201d of patents filed or received by Dragonchain. Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/storm\/\">StormX<\/a>, another Seattle startup\u2014was <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/seattle-startup-stormx-granted-patent-for-micropayment-distribution-technology\/\">granted a patent<\/a> for micropayment distributions.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, multinational conglomerates such as <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/amazon-wins-two-blockchain-related-patents-cryptography-and-distributed-storage\/\">Amazon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/mastercard-files-patent-for-anonymous-electronic-transactions-via-blockchain\/\">Mastercard<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/nike-files-trademark-for-cryptokicks-footwears-foray-into-blockchain\/\">Nike<\/a> are making their own intellectual property claims.
