{"id":105546,"date":"2019-05-17T15:08:59","date_gmt":"2019-05-17T22:08:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=105546"},"modified":"2026-04-16T17:28:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T16:28:07","slug":"roger-ver-craig-wright-libel-suit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/roger-ver-craig-wright-libel-suit\/","title":{"rendered":"Roger Ver strikes back at Craig Wright for libel suit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/craig-wright-filing-lawsuits-against-people-denying-he-is-satoshi-nakamoto\/\">increasingly litigious<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/craig-wright\">Craig Wright<\/a> sued <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin-cash\/\">Bitcoin Cash<\/a> figurehead, and former business partner, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/roger-ver\/\">Roger Ver<\/a> for libel after being called a \u201cfraud and a liar.\u201d Ver responded to the lawsuit by seemingly debunking Wright\u2019s claim that he controlled several high-profile <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> addresses, which would have suggested that Wright is Satoshi Nakamoto.<\/p>\n<h2>Craig Wright called out, again<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/craig-wright\/\">Craig Wright<\/a>, one of the most controversial figures in the crypto industry, has been at the center of media scrutiny for a string of seemingly frivolous lawsuits. Now, the vocal founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin-sv\/\">Bitcoin SV<\/a> is in the news because it appears he was caught lying in court.<\/p>\n<p>Wright, who gained notoriety for claiming he is Satoshi Nakamoto, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.flsd.521536\/gov.uscourts.flsd.521536.1.14.pdf\">submitted<\/a> a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a> addresses to a U.S. District Court in Florida. Craig is a liar and a fraud,&#8221; said a <a href=\"https:\/\/memo.cash\/post\/9d41091fd659287c496c239b3b43000f8b7949dc98bcdc54cca5a501a3062dd6\">message<\/a> on Bitcoin social network <a href=\"https:\/\/memo.cash\/\">Memo<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Crypto enthusiasts and avid followers of the Wright drama were quick to verify the signature, which did indeed show that the address was not owned by Wright.<\/p>\n<p>While Roger Ver, the CEO of Bitcoin.com, hasn't publicly acknowledged that it was him, the similarities between the signed message and Ver's recent <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rogerkver\/status\/1124256267025780736\">snub<\/a> aimed at Wright are undeniable.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">My response to CSW\u2019s 100,000 GBP lawsuit: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Ob1WZITrM3\">pic.twitter.com\/Ob1WZITrM3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Roger Ver (@rogerkver) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rogerkver\/status\/1124256267025780736?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 3, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The move wouldn\u2019t be out of line with Ver\u2019s media modus operandi. He is known to criticize other prominent figures in the crypto industry, especially those who are vocal about their preference for Bitcoin over Bitcoin Cash.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Ver was also on the receiving side of one of Wright\u2019s many libel lawsuits.
