The billionaire chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett, has again hit out at bitcoin, this time comparing it with rat poison.

At the Berkshire Hathaway 2018 annual shareholder meeting on Saturday, Buffett reiterated his negative view on the cryptocurrency, saying it is "probably rat poison squared," CNBC reports.

In other comments Monday, he told CNBC:

"[Bitcoin] itself is creating nothing. When you're buying nonproductive assets, all you're counting on is the next person is going to pay you more because they're even more excited about another next person coming along."

Buffet has something of a history of knocking the cryptocurrency.

Last week, the so-called "Oracle of Omaha" argued that investing in bitcoin is a gamble, not an investment.

"If you wanna gamble somebody else will come along and pay more money tomorrow, that's one kind of game. That is not investing," he said at the time.

In January, he warned investors that bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies would "almost certainly" come to a "bad ending."

And, last October, he stated that bitcoin market is a bubble, adding, "You can't value bitcoin because it's not a value-producing asset."

At Saturday's shareholder meeting, Berkshire Hathaway's vice chairman Charlie Munger also chimed in on the technology, calling cryptocurrency trading "just dementia."

Pudgy Penguins: A New Blueprint for Tokenized Culture

Pudgy Title Image

Pudgy Penguins is building a multi-vertical consumer IP platform — combining phygital products, games, NFTs and PENGU to monetize culture at scale.

What to know:

Pudgy Penguins is emerging as one of the strongest NFT-native brands of this cycle, shifting from speculative “digital luxury goods” into a multi-vertical consumer IP platform. Its strategy is to acquire users through mainstream channels first; toys, retail partnerships and viral media, then onboard them into Web3 through games, NFTs and the PENGU token.

The ecosystem now spans phygital products (> $13M retail sales and >1M units sold), games and experiences (Pudgy Party surpassed 500k downloads in two weeks), and a widely distributed token (airdropped to 6M+ wallets). While the market is currently pricing Pudgy at a premium relative to traditional IP peers, sustained success depends on execution across retail expansion, gaming adoption and deeper token utility.

Robinhood CEO says tokenized stocks could prevent another GameStop freeze

Robinhood's Vlad Tenev speaks at Token2049 in Singapore (Token2049)

Vlad Tenev blamed the trading halt on its app in 2021 on bad infrastructure, a problem that he says tokenization would solve.

What to know:

  • Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev says the 2021 GameStop trading halt was caused by slow, collateral-intensive settlement infrastructure, rather than bad actors.
  • Tenev argues that even the shift from T+2 to T+1 settlement is insufficient in a 24/7 news-and-trading environment, especially for trades executed on Fridays.
  • He is pushing to move stocks onto blockchains for real-time settlement, expand Robinhood’s tokenized stock offerings and 24/7 DeFi-style trading, and urge Congress to pass the CLARITY Act to force the SEC to issue rules on tokenized equities.
