A group of 700 Bitcoiners came together in Miami on the last evening of Bitcoin 2022<\/a> for a special \u201cspiritual\u201d gathering and to hear Dr. Jordan Peterson, the internationally-acclaimed psychologist and author of the bestselling \u201c12 Rules for Life\u201d talk about bitcoin and spirituality.<\/p>\n

Peterson is a favorite in the Bitcoin community and was \u201cone of the most anticipated keynote speakers at Bitcoin 2022,\u201d according to one review<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMuch of the Bitcoin community already has an ideological intersection with Peterson,\u201d noted<\/a> another.<\/p>\n

John Vallis, in attendance and welcoming guests (like one of the priests of old) told<\/a> the gathering, \u201cI\u2019ve been a huge fan of Jordan Peterson for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been instrumental in helping me grapple with the deeper elements of bitcoin and value and meaning and how that\u2019s all wrapped up together,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Robert Breedlove, well-known Bitcoiner and podcaster talked about Peterson\u2019s effect on him, particularly his first book \u201cMaps of Meaning,\u201d saying it was \u201cvery impactful on my thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYour work has been transformative in adding value to millions of people’s lives,\u201d he told Peterson.<\/p>\n

Sometimes Even A Movement Needs A Psychologist<\/h2>\n

It couldn\u2019t be a better time to be consulting with a psychologist. Price volatility can be stressful despite the fact that the big picture for Bitcoin is positive. Two countries \u2014 El Salvador and the Central African Republic have been onboarded to Bitcoin and it looks like several more are on the way.<\/a> <\/p>\n

In his introduction, John Vallis talked about the \u201ccraziness\u201d of \u201cclown world\u201d today and how for many, depression, anxiety and hopelessness are a part of modern fiat living.<\/p>\n

The psychological health of Bitcoiners was the subject of a recent New York Post<\/em> article that published<\/a> a survey that \u201cproved\u201d Bitcoiners are more likely to be \u201cpsychopaths.\u201d<\/p>\n

The average bitcoin investor is a \u201ccalculating psychopath with an inflated ego,\u201d and bitcoin investors commonly exhibit \u2018dark\u2019 personality traits such as narcissism and sadism,\u201d said the article.<\/p>\n

On balance, this New York Post<\/em> piece likely improved peoples\u2019 mental health as it was the cause of great fun and humor for Bitcoiners on Twitter who proceeded to identify as psychopaths and dark tetrads.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin Is Psychologically Healthy<\/h2>\n

Peterson has been cautious in his support of bitcoin but at this event<\/a> he was clear about the issue of mental health and bitcoin saying that bitcoin was psychologically healthier than living with fiat. Calling it an \u201cincorruptible store of value\u201d he credited bitcoin with its \u201ctransformative effect on people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peterson called Bitcoin \u201ca worthy experiment\u201d and said \u201cit doesn\u2019t seem to have any self-evident psychological or logical flaws.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the healthier aspects of bitcoin he noted was the relative certainty of value into the future while fiat is subject to inflation and thus uncertainty which is psychologically stressful.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin Is Freedom Of Value And Speech<\/h2>\n

The issue of freedom is a bottom line for Peterson \u2014 without freedom, especially freedom of speech, psychological well-being is not possible.<\/p>\n

He talked about the importance of freedom and a free market as an important element of psychological well being. <\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the things that made me interested in bitcoin is no interference from the state,\u201d said Peterson. <\/p>\n

\n

Rules that change unpredictably are a source of widespread psychological instability. In this way, fiat contributes to the formation of mass-psychosis, while #Bitcoin<\/a> can help restore mass-sanity.<\/p>\n
