{"id":7820,"date":"2022-07-29T15:31:41","date_gmt":"2022-07-29T15:31:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ci02a76b93f0002662"},"modified":"2022-07-29T15:31:41","modified_gmt":"2022-07-29T15:31:41","slug":"canaan-to-launch-us-bitcoin-mining-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/canaan-to-launch-us-bitcoin-mining-operations","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin ASIC Maker Canaan To Launch U.S. Mining Operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><ul>\n<li>ASIC manufacturer Canaan is set to launch bitcoin mining operations in the U.S. <\/li>\n<li>The company recently started self-mining in Kazakhstan where it has deployed over 10,000 miners.<\/li>\n<li>Ending Q1 2022, the company earned $213 million in revenue and held almost 167 BTC, valued close to $4 million at press time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Canaan, a global leader in bitcoin mining rig manufacturing based in China, is going to launch self- or joint-mining operations in the U.S., according to a report from <a href=\"https:\/\/forkast.news\/headlines\/bitcoin-rig-maker-canaan-self-mining-in-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forkast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/canaan-to-mine-bitcoin-itself-in-kazakhstan\">announced<\/a> its intentions to enter the bitcoin mining space with a pilot operation in Kazakhstan. At that time, Canaan chairman and CEO Nangeng Zhang expressed the need for the company to begin mining itself as a way to create additional revenue streams. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We believe that our self-operated bitcoin mining business will help us improve our financial performance as well as expand our business scope and customer base,&#8221; Zhang said at the time of the announcement. <\/p>\n<p>Following the pilot announcement, the company successfully <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/canaan-expands-its-mining-operations-with-deployment-of-over-10-000-mining-machines-301453302.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deployed over 10,000 AvalonMiner units<\/a> in Kazakhstan. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMining in Kazakhstan is doing well and moving faster, and we expect big growth as well,\u201d Edward Lu, a senior VP of Canaan reportedly said, per the Forkast report.<\/p>\n<p>This additional revenue stream, as well as previous operations, led to Canaan earning <a href=\"https:\/\/investor.canaan-creative.com\/static-files\/d299ccd0-d3e6-43bc-ae40-30850025646b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over $213 million in revenue<\/a> for the first quarter of 2022. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday the real output, or revenue, coming from self-mining or joint-mining, are coming from<a href=\"https:\/\/forkast.news\/headlines\/kazakhstan-bitcoin-miners-status-reports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Kazakhstan<\/a> at the moment, and soon you\u2019ll see other markets as well,\u201d Lu explained.<\/p>\n<p>In May, the Chinese ASIC manufacturer was placed on a scrutinized list by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/1780652\/000119312522141349\/d264769dex991.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Securities and Exchange Commission<\/a> (SEC) amid disputes between U.S. and China leading to many companies facing the same fate.
