According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblock.co\/post\/190286\/ready-to-trade-fidelity-finally-opens-retail-crypto-accounts?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> by The Block, certain users, presumably those on the wait list, received an email detailing the release, which stated that \u201cThe wait is over.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Fidelity has been active in the bitcoin industry for some time \u2014 according to the company website, it began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fidelity.com\/crypto\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mining bitcoin in 2014<\/a>. In addition, it <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/markets\/fidelity-physical-bitcoin-etf-starts-trading-in-canada\">launched a spot bitcoin ETF<\/a> in Canada in December of 2021. <\/p>\n<p>The financial services giant\u2019s interest in bitcoin has not come without criticism, having been the subject of U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/legal\/senators-pen-letter-on-fidelitys-bitcoin-401-k\">senators\u2019 scrutiny<\/a> for its offering of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20220426005525\/en\/Fidelity-Investments-Advances-Leading-Position-as-Digital-Assets-Provider-With-Launch-of-Industry%E2%80%99s-First-of-Its-Kind-Bitcoin-Offering-for-401-k-Core-Investment-Lineup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">401k plan<\/a> that allows users to allocate to bitcoin. <\/p>\n<p>The same criticism has resurfaced again recently, from the same group of senators, who stated in their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.durbin.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/letter_to_fidelity_investments_ceo.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest letter<\/a>, \u201cFidelity Investments has opted to expand beyond traditional finance and delve into the highly unstable and increasingly risky digital asset market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite these warnings, Fidelity appears to be diving headfirst into bitcoin, as interest in bitcoin amongst the traditional finance community continues to grow.
