But August was different.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, the leading cryptocurrency had its third best August ever.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As highlighted on Tuesday by Bitwise&#8217;s European Head of Research, Andr\u00e9 Dragosch, bitcoin delivered returns of 25% last month.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;No &#8216;summer lull&#8217; so far,&#8221; Dragosch <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Andre_Dragosch\/status\/2094723224370094440\">wrote<\/a> on X, highlighting that the only better Augusts the coin has had were in 2017 when it gave investors returns of nearly 66%, and 2013, with close to 31%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">OFFICIAL: August 2026 is in the books and it&#39;s been the 3rd best August in bitcoin&#39;s history. \ud83d\udd25<br><br>August 2017: +65.6%<br>August 2013: +30.7%<br>August 2026: +25.0%<br><br>No &quot;summer lull&quot; so far. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jwHt2VP5Sk\">pic.twitter.com\/jwHt2VP5Sk<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Andr\u00e9 Dragosch, PhD\u26a1 (@Andre_Dragosch) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Andre_Dragosch\/status\/2094723224370094440?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 1, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Multiple analyses point to the months of June-September showing weaker average returns than the rest of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout most of June and July, bitcoin&#8217;s volatility was particularly muted, and the coin traded below $65,000.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But that changed in mid-August after the U.S. Treasury Department <a href=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/news\/press-releases\/sb0607\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> it would more than double the size of its government debt repurchases due to fixed income markets under pressure and yields surging to levels not seen in nearly 20 years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lower long-term yields reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets like bitcoin and gold, and generally support risk-on sentiment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investors flooded into bitcoin as a result.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Positive news soon followed, with President Donald Trump urging lawmakers to get the long-awaited crypto Clarity Act over the line.
