{"id":53986,"date":"2026-08-10T16:18:27","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T21:18:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/?p=53986"},"modified":"2026-08-10T16:18:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T21:18:33","slug":"blockstream-debuts-bitcoin-swaps-lightning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/news\/blockstream-debuts-bitcoin-swaps-lightning","title":{"rendered":"Blockstream Debuts Swaps, Allowing Bitcoiners to Move Between Lightning and Main Network With Ease\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bitcoin infrastructure company Blockstream has announced a new feature allowing users to make trustless swaps.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dubbed Blockstream Swaps, the idea is that Bitcoiners will be able to quickly move between the main chain and Lightning network.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It comes after non-custodial Bitcoin swap provider <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/boltz-launches-non-custodial-usdc-swaps-bridging-bitcoin-directly-to-circles-regulated-dollar\">Boltz<\/a> suspended its service after it said attackers were finding vulnerabilities faster than its team could fix using AI.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;In support of the broader Bitcoin and Liquid ecosystem, Blockstream is launching Blockstream Swaps,&#8221; Blockstream <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.blockstream.com\/announcing-blockstream-swaps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This initiative was already under development to ensure a resilient suite of utility for the ecosystem, and it complements the providers already doing this work rather than replacing any one of them.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The idea, added Blockstream, is users can move funds across layers while never losing full control over their funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To use Lightning, users will not need to run a node or channel \u2014 as is normally needed with Lightning \u2014 and can simply hold a Bitcoin or LBTC balance and let a swap convert at the moment of payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LBTC is the native asset of the Liquid Network, a Bitcoin layer-2 sidechain created by Blockstream.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This initiative was already under development to ensure a resilient suite of utility for the ecosystem, and it complements the providers already doing this work rather than replacing any one of them,&#8221; added Blocksteam&#8217;s announcement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boltz this month suspended its Bitcoin swap service.
