{"id":5340,"date":"2023-01-19T21:28:39","date_gmt":"2023-01-19T21:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ci02b5c71b5000253a"},"modified":"2025-09-28T17:40:24","modified_gmt":"2025-09-28T22:40:24","slug":"new-hampshire-commission-recommends-bitcoin-mining","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/legal\/new-hampshire-commission-recommends-bitcoin-mining","title":{"rendered":"New Hampshire Commission Recommends Statewide Bitcoin Mining Energy Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><p>New Hampshire (NH) Governor Chris Sununu\u2019s \u201cCommission On Cryptocurrencies And Digital Assets\u201d has returned results that suggest the NH Department of Energy create a public review of how <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/guides\/bitcoin-mining\">bitcoin mining<\/a> operations might be integrated into a statewide energy plan.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.nh.gov\/sites\/g\/files\/ehbemt336\/files\/inline-documents\/sonh\/cryptocurrencie-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">commission<\/a> cites \u201cpositive impacts for the electricity system, including contributing to a more stable electricity grid, more sustainable generation projects, and lower costs for consumers generally,\u201d as reasoning for this recommendation. <\/p>\n<p>Governor Sununu created the Commission via executive order back in February 2022, which in part read that \u201cthe State of New Hampshire should continue to be an active proponent of financial services innovation and should remain an excellent jurisdiction to attract the highest quality banking and financial businesses and the well-paying jobs they offered to our citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This report\u2019s findings come a couple of months after the release of a report titled \u201cTexas Work Group On Blockchain Matters.\u201d Directed at members of the Texas legislature, it recommended making bitcoin an authorized investment for the state, while giving tax incentives to local BTC miners. Both reports conclude that further research into Bitcoin is necessary, and indicate that American states are increasingly considering the benefits of embracing bitcoin. <\/p>\n<p>Also indicated in the New Hampshire report was the necessity for regulation to protect consumers. \u201cA well regulated cryptocurrency market provides consumer protection, and trust in the market which is a boon to investors, the general public, and businesses alike,\u201d reads appendix B, written by New Hampshire\u2019s Bureau of Securities Regulation. \u201cWhat has become increasingly clear over the past several years is that cryptocurrency has a role in securities regulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>States like New Hampshire and Texas could end up leading the way for Bitcoin adoption in the U.S. if they decide to follow such recommendations.
