{"id":49024,"date":"2025-11-20T15:14:27","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T20:14:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/?p=49024"},"modified":"2025-11-20T15:14:34","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T20:14:34","slug":"ray-dalio-reaffirms-bitcoin-skepticism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/ray-dalio-reaffirms-bitcoin-skepticism","title":{"rendered":"Ray Dalio Reaffirms Bitcoin Skepticism, Says He Still Holds Just 1% Allocation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div>\n<p>Billionaire investor Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates, reiterated his cautious stance on Bitcoin this week, revealing that he holds only a small fraction of the cryptocurrency in his portfolio.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on CNBC\u2019s <em>Squawk Box<\/em>, Dalio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hwkHkUpWZP4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>, \u201cI have a small percentage of Bitcoin\u2026 I\u2019ve had it forever, like 1% of my portfolios,\u201d underscoring his committed and limited exposure to the asset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dalio, long known for his macroeconomic insights and <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/markets\/what-institutional-investor-ray-dalio-gets-wrong-about-bitcoin\">somewhat dubious Bitcoin takes<\/a>, emphasized that Bitcoin faces structural challenges that hinder its adoption as a global reserve currency.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He pointed to Bitcoin\u2019s transparency and traceability as major constraints, arguing that governments are unlikely to rely on a monetary system that is fully trackable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not going to be a reserve currency for major countries because it can be tracked,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bitcoin under threat?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to regulatory hurdles, Dalio flagged potential long-term security risks. Advances in computing, particularly quantum technology, could one day threaten Bitcoin\u2019s cryptographic foundation, Dalio contended.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt could be conceivably, with quantum computing, controlled, hacked, and so on and so forth,\u201d he warned.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis estimates that quantum breakthroughs could jeopardize Bitcoin\u2019s security within 10 to 15 years, highlighting the technical challenges the network faces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dalio has historically expressed skepticism about <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/ray-dalio-prefers-bitcoin-over-bonds\">Bitcoin\u2019s trajectory<\/a>. In 2021, he cautioned that governments <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/culture\/ray-dalio-doesnt-understand-bitcoin\">could intervene<\/a> if the cryptocurrency became too widely adopted, saying, \u201cIf it becomes really successful, they will kill it. And they have ways of killing it.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet he has also acknowledged Bitcoin\u2019s durability, noting in later interviews that it has \u201cproven itself\u2026 it hasn\u2019t been hacked, it\u2019s stood the test of time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bridgewater Associates\u2019 Q3 2025 filings with the SEC reveal a massive $25.53 billion U.S. equity portfolio spanning more than 1,000 positions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While he has previously compared Bitcoin to digital gold, Dalio continues to advocate for traditional hedges such as gold, which he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/markets\/2025\/11\/20\/ray-dalio-still-owns-bitcoin-but-says-traceability-and-quantum-threat-are-concerns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">describes<\/a> as an asset \u201cyou can hold, and you\u2019re not dependent on someone to provide it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dalio\u2019s comments arrive amid market fear, as Bitcoin recently slipped below $86,000 following delayed U.S. employment data and broader macroeconomic pressures.
