The grants focus on improving Bitcoin scaling, privacy, decentralization, global education, censorship-resistant communication and community-building efforts, with areas of focus including Africa and Asia. The HRF has allocated more than $2.7 million in BTC and USD since early 2020 to over 80 developers, educators and open-source initiatives worldwide according to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine.<\/p>\n<p>One grant recipient is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/meronina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meron Estefanos<\/a>, who will use $50,000 to create Bitcoin Innovation Hub Uganda. The hub aims to equip local youth with practical skills to become sovereign individuals and will host local meetups to serve as a Bitcoin awareness and learning center. Ugandans face difficulty receiving remittances due to high fees and obstacles in obtaining ID cards, the press release states.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kcalvinalvinn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Calvin Kim<\/a> has received $100,000 to research and implement a peer-to-peer (P2P) protocol for Utreexo block\/transaction messages to prepare Utreexo for a mainnet launch. Utreexo is a Bitcoin scaling solution for faster verification and synchronization of Bitcoin full nodes. The grant will support Kim&#8217;s work on improving Bitcoin scaling.<\/p>\n<p>Another recipient is <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/callebtc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Calle<\/a> for Cashu, which has received $50,000 for the development of a free and open-source protocol that enables Chaumian ecash on top of Bitcoin. The Cashu protocol conceals user balances and transaction history, offering near-perfect privacy for users of custodial Bitcoin wallets. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/b10c.me\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">0xB10C<\/a> received $50,000 \u201cfor their work on Bitcoin Core Tracepoints, P2P monitoring, fork observer, mining pool observer and Bitcoin data.\u201d In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rootzoll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rootzoll<\/a> received $50,000 for<a href=\"https:\/\/raspiblitz.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Raspiblitz<\/a>, a do-it-yourself lightning node that can be run on a Raspberry Pi.<\/p>\n<p>$25,000 went to<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BOBSpace_BKK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> BOB Space BKK<\/a> for their Thailand residency program, while <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WLCongress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Liberty Congress<\/a> received $25,000 for the Freedom Academy.<\/p>\n<p>$25,000 also went to<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hampus_s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Hampus Sj\u00f6berg<\/a> for<a href=\"https:\/\/blixtwallet.github.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Blixt Wallet<\/a>, a non-custodial open-source Bitcoin and Lightning wallet, and $10,000 will go to<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nourou4them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Nourou<\/a> for<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bitcoin_sen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Bitcoin S\u00e9n\u00e9gal<\/a>, a group that hosts meetups, creates educational content, and onboards local merchants to Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CharFadirepo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charlene Fadirepo<\/a> got $10,000 for the<a href=\"https:\/\/podcasters.spotify.com\/pod\/show\/charlene-fadirepo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Bitcoin in Africa Show<\/a>, providing education, insights and thoughtful conversations \u201cto deepen the understanding of Bitcoin across the African continent,\u201d the press release described. And finally, $10,000 will go to<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/marcelorraine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Lorraine Marcel<\/a> for<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/btc_dada\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Bitcoin DADA<\/a>, a women-centric organization with contributors based in Kenya and beyond that educates African women in the Bitcoin space. <\/p>\n<p>HRF&#8217;s Bitcoin Development Fund aims to accelerate the development of privacy-preserving technologies for Bitcoin users and support infrastructure improvements to make Bitcoin more accessible worldwide.
