{"id":16554,"date":"2021-05-10T16:50:24","date_gmt":"2021-05-10T16:50:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ci0282c20700002568"},"modified":"2021-05-10T16:50:24","modified_gmt":"2021-05-10T16:50:24","slug":"miami-mayor-buys-bitcoin-after-1-9-trillion-stimulus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/markets\/miami-mayor-buys-bitcoin-after-1-9-trillion-stimulus","title":{"rendered":"Biden&#8217;s $1.9 Trillion Stimulus Bill Pushes Miami Mayor To Buy Bitcoin"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/y__YwqrJuYE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent interview<\/a>, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said that he bought bitcoin right after Joe Biden&#8217;s $1.9 trillion stimulus bill passed the U.S. Senate in March, claiming that he doesn&#8217;t think people will want to stay in dollar-denominated currencies.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I did buy bitcoin and ethereum and I bought it literally the day &#8230; that the $1.9 trillion spending bill passed the Senate and it was going to the president&#8217;s desk,&#8221; Suarez shared in the interview during Ethereal Virtual Summit 2021. &#8220;If the federal government&#8217;s going to spend $1.9 trillion then I think I need to have some [bitcoin], and this is definitely going to go up.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And frankly if they spend another $2.2 trillion on an infrastructure bill, [then bitcoin is] going to continue to go up,\u201d Suarez continued. \u201cI mean there&#8217;s just no way that it can&#8217;t because I don&#8217;t think people are going to want to stay in dollar-denominated currencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Suarez has been taking deliberate measures to get Miami one step ahead of other American cities by integrating Bitcoin and other disruptive technologies into the city&#8217;s operations.<\/p>\n<p>After Bitcoin.org and Bitcoincore.org maintainers were <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoin.org\/en\/posts\/regarding-csw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked to remove the Bitcoin white paper<\/a> from their websites, Mayor Suarez stepped forth and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamigov.com\/Government\/City-Officials\/Mayor-Francis-Suarez\/Bitcoin-White-Paper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hosted the white paper on Miami&#8217;s website<\/a>. And the largest Bitcoin conference of all time, Bitcoin 2021 (which is hosted by <em>Bitcoin Magazine <\/em>parent company BTC Inc), <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/industry-events\/bitcoin-2021-is-moving-to-miami\">will be held in Miami in June<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the mayor&#8217;s proposal for allowing Miami employees to receive compensation in bitcoin and allowing the city to add bitcoin to its balance sheet <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/mayors-proposal-to-integrate-bitcoin-into-miamis-operations-receives-approval\">received support from city commissioners in February<\/a>.
