{"id":16422,"date":"2021-05-20T15:38:21","date_gmt":"2021-05-20T15:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ci028393e9b0002458"},"modified":"2021-05-20T15:38:21","modified_gmt":"2021-05-20T15:38:21","slug":"penn-receives-5-million-bitcoin-donation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/penn-receives-5-million-bitcoin-donation","title":{"rendered":"University Of Pennsylvania Receives Anonymous $5 Million Bitcoin Donation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><p>Per an <a href=\"https:\/\/news.wharton.upenn.edu\/press-releases\/2021\/05\/university-of-pennsylvania-receives-largest-cryptocurrency-gift-in-the-universitys-history-to-support-innovation-in-finance-at-the-wharton-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announcement<\/a> from the University of Pennsylvania, the school has received \u201ca new anonymous gift of $5 million in the form of Bitcoin \u2014 the largest cryptocurrency gift the University has ever received.\u201d The donation will go to support innovation in finance for the university\u2019s Wharton business school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFacilitated by NYDIG \u2026 the landmark commitment will support the growth of programs within the Stevens CEnter for Innovation in Finance at the Wharton School,\u201d according to the announcement. \u201cBy engaging students with Wharton faculty and financial institution leaders, they become immersed in learning about the digital currency ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Stevens Center for Innovation in Finance was established in 1991 as \u201ca top entity for education and research in the field of fintech,\u201d the university said.<\/p>\n<p>The university\u2019s president, Amy Gutmann, expressed delight at the school being the recipient of such a gesture.
