The council\u2019s website is live and shares details about its mandate, what it will do, and the roles to be played by influential CEOs Elon Musk and Michael Saylor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bitcoin Mining Council is a voluntary and open forum of Bitcoin miners committed to the network and its core principles,\u201d per the BMC website. \u201cWe promote transparency, share best practices, and educate the public on the benefits of Bitcoin and Bitcoin mining.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although the BMC was <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/musk-saylor-announce-bitcoin-mining-council\">first established in a closed-door meeting<\/a>, it has allegedly moved into a more open framework. According to the council\u2019s website, any bitcoin miner can join, provided they agree to share their energy mix and hash rate size for \u201cresearch and educational purposes.\u201d In addition, the members of the council should promote Bitcoin\u2019s core principles and tenets \u2014 \u201cthat it is a decentralized, peer to peer, censorship-resistant and open-source protocol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The website also claims that Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who participated in the group\u2019s first meeting, \u201chas no role at the BMC.\u201d But CEO of software intelligence firm MicroStrategy Michael Saylor, who convened the first meeting, is a \u201ckey member of the BMC, both as a facilitator and Bitcoin supporter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Bitcoin Mining Council, which was at first a closed group, received skeptical reactions from many in the Bitcoin community who thought the council could take an aggressive stance on Bitcoin\u2019s energy consumption, fueled by <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/markets\/bitcoin-price-dips-on-elon-musk-tweet\">Musk\u2019s recent concerns<\/a>.
