{"id":11920,"date":"2022-01-18T16:42:01","date_gmt":"2022-01-18T16:42:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ci02979a8d500025ef"},"modified":"2022-01-18T16:42:01","modified_gmt":"2022-01-18T16:42:01","slug":"intel-to-share-new-bitcoin-mining-asic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/intel-to-share-new-bitcoin-mining-asic","title":{"rendered":"Intel To Join Bitcoin Mining ASIC Market With New Chip"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><ul>\n<li>Intel could be about to enter the bitcoin mining chip-making industry.<\/li>\n<li>The giant chipmaker will present \u201cBonanza Mine,\u201d an \u201cultra-low-voltage energy-efficient bitcoin mining ASIC\u201d at the upcoming ISSCC conference on February 23.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s unclear whether the presentation will entail a product launch, a proof of concept demonstration, or simply sharing a project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Intel, the market leader in computer chip manufacturing, is on the brink of penetrating the bitcoin mining ASIC-making market to compete with the likes of Bitmain and Canaan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomshardware.com\/news\/intel-to-unveil-bitcoin-mining-bonanza-mine-asic-at-chip-conference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Tom\u2019s Hardware<\/em><\/a> first reported.<\/p>\n<p>The giant chip producer will present a \u201cBonanza Mine\u201d chip at the upcoming ISSCC conference, which according to conference information is an \u201cultra-low-voltage energy-efficient Bitcoin mining ASIC.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/image-21.png\" title=\"\"><\/figure>\n<p>In December, the senior vice president and general manager of Intel\u2019s Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics (AXG) group, Raja Koduri, said in an interview that the company had been working on a dedicated chip for cryptocurrency mining, commenting on how its GPU cards weren\u2019t designed for that use case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGPUs will do graphics, gaming, and all those wonderful things,\u201d Koduri <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Yre8CHS73-Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cBut being able to do much more efficient blockchain validation at a much lower cost, much lower power, is a pretty solvable problem. And you know, we are working on that, and at some point in time, hopefully not too far into the future, we will share some interesting hardware for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It isn\u2019t yet clear whether Intel will only reveal a project it has been working on, share a proof of concept, or launch a market-ready product. But given the presentation\u2019s track, \u201chighlighted Chip Releases: Digital\/ML,\u201d and the timing&nbsp;<em>\u2014<\/em>&nbsp;a couple of months after Koduri\u2019s comments&nbsp;<em>\u2014<\/em>&nbsp;raise the prospects that Intel will release new hardware for mining bitcoin, focused on power-efficiency and decreased costs.<\/p>\n<p>Intel told <em>Bitcoin Magazine <\/em>that its Bonanza Mine isn&#8217;t a new chip, but rather represent past explorations since filing a patent in 2018.
