{"id":11528,"date":"2022-01-27T12:46:33","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T12:46:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ci029854e48000278c"},"modified":"2022-01-27T12:46:33","modified_gmt":"2022-01-27T12:46:33","slug":"putin-backs-bitcoin-mining-in-russia-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/business\/putin-backs-bitcoin-mining-in-russia-report","title":{"rendered":"Putin Supports Bitcoin Mining in Russia: Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><p>Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly backs a government proposal to encourage <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/guides\/what-is-money\">bitcoin mining<\/a> in the country through clear taxation and regulatory measures, instead of following the central bank\u2019s recommendations of banning the activity altogether.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report by <em>Bloomberg<\/em>, the Russian government is mostly against radical measures and instead seeks to promote a healthy bitcoin mining industry by presenting a new set of legislation intended to tax and regulate farms that have flocked to the country in the past year.<\/p>\n<p>Three people familiar with the matter told <em>Bloomberg<\/em> that Putin backs the government\u2019s stance, while the Bank of Russia has recommended the country to prohibit citizens from trading and mining cryptocurrency due to concerns that the activity could pose certain risks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president\u2019s backing, combined with his public comments this week, mean that the proposals are likely to be approved,\u201d per the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-01-27\/putin-backs-crypto-mining-despite-bank-of-russia-s-hard-line\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em><\/a> report.<\/p>\n<p>Putin on a Wednesday meeting with government officials acknowledged the central bank\u2019s position but <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/markets\/putin-russia-has-advantages-in-bitcoin-mining\">highlighted<\/a> that Russia had some \u201ccompetitive advantages\u201d to mining bitcoin, given its \u201cpower surplus and well-trained manpower,\u201d according to a translated version of a statement from the Kremlin.
