{"id":11341,"date":"2022-02-09T20:28:28","date_gmt":"2022-02-09T20:28:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ci02996de69000278d"},"modified":"2025-10-01T13:15:31","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T18:15:31","slug":"blackrock-to-offer-bitcoin-trading-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/markets\/blackrock-to-offer-bitcoin-trading-report","title":{"rendered":"BlackRock Planning to Offer Bitcoin Trading: Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><p>The world\u2019s largest asset manager, BlackRock, is reportedly planning to offer a bitcoin trading service to its investor clients, three people familiar with the matter told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2022\/02\/09\/blackrock-planning-to-offer-crypto-trading-sources-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>CoinDesk<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>BlackRock entering the Bitcoin space by offering investment products to its clients could represent a watershed moment to the digital currency given that the New York-based firm manages <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/blackrock-now-manages-over-10-trillion-in-assets-11642162013\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over $10 trillion in assets<\/a> for institutional investors.<\/p>\n<p>One of the people reportedly said the asset manager would let its clients get access to loans by putting up cryptocurrency as collateral with \u201cclient support trading and then with their own credit facility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BlackRock\u2019s over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackrock.com\/institutions\/en-us\/our-clients\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1,500 institutional clients<\/a> \u2013 which include corporate and public pensions, endowments and foundations, and sovereign wealth funds \u2013 would be able to trade bitcoin through the asset manager\u2019s integrated investment software, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackrock.com\/aladdin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aladdin<\/a>, one of the people reportedly said.<\/p>\n<p>A second person familiar with the matter reportedly said that BlackRock was interested in getting \u201chands-on with outright crypto\u201d and was \u201clooking at providers in the space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A third person reportedly commented that there is a working group of \u201capproximately 20 or so\u201d evaluating bitcoin and cryptocurrency inside BlackRock. \u201cThey see all the flow that everyone else is getting and want to start making some money from this,\u201d the person added.<\/p>\n<p>BlackRock\u2019s chief executive officer Larry Fink said in May of last year that the asset manager was studying bitcoin to determine whether it could offer countercyclical benefits, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/blackrock-directors-executive-pay-pass-annual-general-meeting-2021-05-26\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Reuters<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>report.
