The program\u2019s focuses include Bitcoin and <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/guides\/what-is-blockchain\">blockchain technology<\/a>, human-rights privacy and advocacy, and decentralized identity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking for interns with a wide range of expertise including not just software engineers and hardware developers, but also pre-law students, library science students, and technical writers,\u201d said Blockchain Commons founder Christopher Allen in a <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/BlockchainCommons\/Community\/discussions\/74\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GitHub post<\/a> announcing the internship.<\/p>\n<p>Allen said that he expects at least a third of the work during the internship to be focused on tools and resources for supporting activists around the world as they attempt to leverage the right technology for their daily advocacy efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been a long-held goal at Blockchain Commons, where we\u2019re working to protect people, not just money,\u201d Allan said. \u201cFor the second year in a row, a grant from the Human Rights Foundation is putting this work front and center this summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Creating and advocating for open and secure digital infrastructure sits at the core of Blockchain Commons\u2019 work, and Allen expects to empower interns with the knowledge and mentoring they need to help the organization thrive in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Interns can expect to learn the ins and outs of open development; participate in weekly \u201coffice hours\u201d conversations with each other and industry experts from leading Bitcoin and advocacy companies like Blockstream, HRF, and the Electronic Frontier Foundation; and collaborate to devise powerful open-source projects at the intersection of their passion and Blockchain Commons\u2019 most pressing needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe encourage interns to work collaboratively together and we teach them how to function in the open-source ecosystem,\u201d Allen said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChristopherA\/status\/1496912289722560513?s=20&amp;t=Fq_e-8ioF-CVWJCyrV5htw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter thread<\/a>. \u201cPast internship projects have included our <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/BlockchainCommons\/spotbit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spotbit pricing server<\/a>, our <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/BlockchainCommons\/mori-cli\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mori-cli app<\/a> for Bitcoin inheritance, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/BlockchainCommons\/Pseudonymity-Guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pseudonymity guide<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blockchaincommons.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blockchain Commons<\/a> demands 40 hours of professional work across the three-month summer program and offers two mentoring calls to all interns as well as a small honorarium to those who complete the three milestones set at the beginning of the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/BlockchainCommons\/Community\/discussions\/74\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">internship<\/a>.
