{"id":10212,"date":"2022-04-07T15:18:42","date_gmt":"2022-04-07T15:18:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ci029e1b0f000026f4"},"modified":"2022-04-07T15:18:42","modified_gmt":"2022-04-07T15:18:42","slug":"global-legislators-announce-pro-bitcoin-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/culture\/global-legislators-announce-pro-bitcoin-legislation","title":{"rendered":"Samson Mow Announces Pro Bitcoin Legislation In Three Countries"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><p>Samson Mow, the former chief strategy officer of Blockstream who stepped down in March to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Excellion\/status\/1498680531520827399?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1498680531520827399%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcointelegraph.com%2Fnews%2Fsamson-mow-leaves-blockstream-plans-to-focus-on-nation-state-bitcoin-adoption\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">focus on \u201cnation-state Bitcoin adoption<\/a>,\u201d brought legislators from around the world on stage at Bitcoin 2022 to highlight regulatory progress being made to encourage this adoption around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Joel Bomgar, the president of Pr\u00f3spera, an <a href=\"https:\/\/prospera.hn\/roatan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201ceconomic development hub\u201d located in Honduras<\/a>, said that bitcoin acts as legal tender there; Miguel Filipe Machado de Albuquerque, the president of Portugal\u2019s Madeira region, announced that bitcoin investors will pay no personal income taxes there; and Indira Kempis, a senator in Mexico, announced that she plans to propose regulation there to recognize bitcoin as legal tender. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think now is the pivotal time in human history and we need to move things forward fast. What we need is more nation state bitcoin adoption,\u201d Mow said. \u201cEvery country, every jurisdiction, will have a unique path to bitcoin adoption. Legal tender is one way, another way is de facto legal tender.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mow served as the chief architect of a <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/markets\/el-salvador-president-nayib-bukele-samson-mow-volcano-bitcoin-bond\">\u201cvolcano bitcoin bond\u201d introduced by El Salvador<\/a> that would see the county issue $1 billion in bonds on Blockstream\u2019s Liquid Bitcoin sidechain then split the proceeds between a $500 million allocation to BTC and an investment in energy and bitcoin mining infrastructure. He announced that he\u2019s formed a new company, called JAN3 in reference to the launch of the Bitcoin network, to focus on nation-state Bitcoin adoption.<\/p>\n<p>Mow added that the company has raised $21 million at a $100 million innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Mow then invited the series of legislators to join him on stage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I believe in the future and I believe in Bitcoin,\u201d said President Machado de Albuquerque. &#8220;Individuals in Madeira that buy and sell bitcoin &#8230; don&#8217;t pay taxes.
