{"id":10173,"date":"2022-04-08T21:38:27","date_gmt":"2022-04-08T21:38:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ci029e366ce00026ec"},"modified":"2022-04-08T21:38:27","modified_gmt":"2022-04-08T21:38:27","slug":"eric-weinstein-and-avi-loeb-breaking-physics-and-changing-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitcoinmagazine.com\/culture\/eric-weinstein-and-avi-loeb-breaking-physics-and-changing-the-world","title":{"rendered":"Eric Weinstein At Bitcoin 2022: Breaking Physics And Changing The World"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"bsf_rt_marker\"><\/div><ul>\n<li>Eric Weinstein is well known for captivating and thought-provoking opinions in theoretical physics and has commented on Bitcoin maximalism.<\/li>\n<li>In one statement in 2021, Weinstein referred to Bitcoiners as \u201cthe logical saviors of physics,\u201d outlining his conversation focusing on the physics behind the protocol.<\/li>\n<li>The conversation painted a not-so-evident framing of centralization that inevitably leads to Bitcoin changing the world. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Eric Weinstein, managing director of Thiel Capital and host of &#8220;The Portal&#8221; podcast, took the main stage at Bitcoin 2022 to discuss fixing the monetary systems of humanity. Weinstein was joined by Abraham (Avi) Loeb, an Israel-American theoretical physicist and professor of science at Harvard University. <\/p>\n<p>Weinstein has been known to have interesting views when it comes to Bitcoin. One Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EricRWeinstein\/status\/1345808779003117570?t=V7DwOn85vpWOsPkl5i5_cQ&amp;s=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thread<\/a> from 2021 got particularly interesting when Weinstein was asked to become a Bitcoiner by another user, to which he replied, \u201cNo. Your job is to liberate physics. Mine, to liberate you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Weinstein <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EricRWeinstein\/status\/1345808782794788865?t=7IDftA6RDBviSsjVHUjEYg&amp;s=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">continued<\/a> to write, \u201cI would however come to any credible meeting about freeing Satoshi\u2019s genius from the loss of anonymity to the ledger that is the blockchain.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>That comment reads as adversarial, yet in the same tweet, Weinstein stated, \u201cBitcoiners are the logical saviors of physics.\u201d This takes us to his conversation with Loeb at Bitcoin 2022, the aforementioned \u201ccredible meeting\u201d at which they discussed not only the possibility of Bitcoin\u2019s success, but the need for it to save us all. <\/p>\n<p>To start the conference appearance, Weinstein did not shy away from the debates he has had with Bitcoin maximalists in the past.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of you may know me for getting in trouble with Bitcoiners on Clubhouse,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, the crowd watched as Weinstein and&nbsp;Loeb&nbsp;took a hard left turn in conversation. It seemed as though the conversation was meant to focus on UFOs and the discovery of objects entering our solar system that were previously undefined. This was a clever framework for the intended conversation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason I&#8217;m here with you at Bitcoin 2022, there is some commonality,\u201d Loeb explained. \u201cThe government may own data or classify data for objects that they really couldn&#8217;t identify.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The commonality being that the centralized distribution of information from a government agency represents a metaphor of centrally-planned financial systems that determine what is ultimately the direction of global economies. This problem becomes exacerbated when one realizes the inefficiencies of government entities. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government works in a system that is opaque. Different parts of the government don\u2019t know about each other,\u201d Loeb said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The question being raised at this point in their conversation is, where do we look for answers to the problems of money, and for the world?<\/p>\n<p>Weinstein and Loeb made multiple comments about looking next door to your cosmic neighbors with hope that maybe they will have an answer, or information you are unaware of.
