According to AMBCrypto, that will be key to crypto&#8217;s direction heading into Q4. The total crypto market cap has been stuck in a tight range for almost two weeks, meaning any sharp move could quickly turn into a larger breakout or breakdown. This makes the source of the current volatility especially important for this cycle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a post on Truth Social, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the U.S. was striking Iranian targets in and around the Strait of Hormuz and warned Iran not to retaliate. Brent crude is now nearing $95 a barrel, re-introducing geopolitical and inflation FUD into focus. In addition, the market was already bracing for the upcoming FOMC meeting on the 15th of September. However, with macro FUD cooling and crypto ending August on a strong note, there was optimism that September might just break its typical bearish seasonality. But the return of macro FUD has dashed those hopes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, the key point here is timing. Given the tight chop in the crypto market, and the FOMC coming up, even a minor bearish catalyst can lead to a substantial correction. In that respect, dismissing the recent geopolitical FUD as \u201crandom\u201d seems a little overly optimistic. If it becomes the catalyst for another flush, this volatility could easily become more than just a routine deleveraging event.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Macro FUD puts crypto&#8217;s consolidation at risk<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smart money appears to be positioning ahead of a potential breakdown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Lookonchain, there is a mystery <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethereum [ETH]<\/a> whale that has deposited 103,252 ETH over the past three days. At the same time, Bitcoin has a big sell wall around $82,000, implying that there is heavy resistance just above the current price range. With macro FUD coming back in, this positioning is becoming harder to write off as coincidental.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, if oil remains this high going into the September FOMC meeting as suggested by one analyst, the rate hike pressure will still be there. With December oil trading less than $1 from new highs, macro environment is becoming an increasingly challenging barrier for crypto.
