One would establish a formal governance system for Solana, while the other could change how people pay to use the network.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Solana will create new SOL more slowly<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the proposals, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/solana-foundation\/solana-governance-proposals\/pull\/4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SGP-0002<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, doubles the rate at which Solana gradually reduces token issuance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/solana-fee-vote-divides-supporters-as-charles-schwab-adds-sol-trading\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Solana<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will continue creating new SOL to reward people who help secure the network.But those rewards will now decline more quickly until annual inflation reaches its existing <\/span><b>1.5%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> floor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposal estimates that Solana could issue around <strong>1<\/strong><\/span><b>8.9 million fewer SOL over the next six<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> years, and it would also reach <\/span><b>1.5% in about 2.8 years instead of 5.7 years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For SOL holders, slower supply growth could reduce how their holdings are diluted as a result of new SOL entering circulation. But it does not mean there will be a price increase, particularly if demand for SOL weakens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People earning staking rewards could also receive less as time goes on, but it does not change validator commissions, transaction fees, or other sources of network income.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Major validators disagree over transaction fees<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A separate proposal, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/solana-foundation\/solana-governance-proposals\/blob\/bbe76efda2b108daec5f2e8aa7cd4aa6538314c6\/proposals\/sgp-0003-resource-and-inclusion-fee.md\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SGP-0003<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, would change how Solana charges for transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Users currently pay a standard fee based on the number of signatures attached to a transaction. The proposal would introduce a small fixed charge, then add another fee based on the network capacity the transaction requests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Simple transactions could become cheaper, while more demanding transactions, or applications that reserve more capacity than they need, could pay more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The additional fee generated would be destroyed rather than paid to validators. The move could remove between <\/span><b>1,500 and 9,000 SOL<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from circulation each day, depending on the rate that is eventually introduced.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Major validators have not reached the same conclusion about the plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Figment and Staking Facilities backed it<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while <\/span><b>Jupiter, Bitwise Onchain Solutions and Forward Industries voted against it<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Helius, Kraken, Everstake and Kiln placed most or all of their voting stake in the abstain category<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposal looks at a new way of calculating fees with decisions about the fixed charge, how quickly rates should rise, and whether the proceeds should be destroyed, and this is why there is a lot of disagreement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SGP-0003 remained above its required approval level at the time of the snapshot, but voting was still ongoing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/solana-foundation\/solana-governance-proposals\/blob\/6f80d91b7c86a30b6ef54bbdbb37e570477b26ce\/proposals\/sgp-0001-solana-constitution.md\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SGP-0001<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/solana-could-issue-18-9m-fewer-sol-as-demand-heats-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Solana\u2019s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> constitution proposal, would establish formal rules for future network decisions and allow individual stakers to override the position taken by their validator.
