{"id":625118,"date":"2026-08-14T16:00:33","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T20:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/?p=625118"},"modified":"2026-08-14T07:48:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T11:48:09","slug":"hyperliquid-user-loses-550019-usdc-to-fake-google-ad-details","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/hyperliquid-user-loses-550019-usdc-to-fake-google-ad-details\/","title":{"rendered":"Hyperliquid user loses 550,019 USDC to fake Google ad \u2013 Details"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In another episode of scams that made headlines in 2026, a recent phishing attack specifically targeted Hyperliquid users rather than a direct breach of Hyperliquid&#8217;s protocol.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Darcy Ari, co-founder of FlashRescue, on the 13th of August, the attackers used Hyperliquid-related keywords to buy Google Search advertisements. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the background, the malicious advertisement may have shown up among the top results when users searched for the platform, possibly passing for an official Hyperliquid link.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Following which, at least one user was sent to a phony website that mimicked the genuine platform after clicking on the advertisement.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Funds drained<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, the user seemed to have lost 550,019 USDC, or about $550,000. After that, the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DarcyAri\/status\/2087804729258594427\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">money was moved<\/a> to three blockchain addresses that were purportedly connected to the attackers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this transfer, around 440,015 USDC, 82,503 USDC, and 27,501 USDC were moved, respectively.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure Hyperliquid, the alleged attack used social engineering. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to trick users into connecting wallets, authorizing malicious transactions, or disclosing private information, attackers allegedly made a phony Hyperliquid website and advertised it using Google Search ads. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After being provided access, the attackers were able to transfer money without jeopardizing the trustworthy platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Steps taken<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has been reported that Google suspended the campaign&#8217;s associated advertiser.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, this isn&#8217;t the first time a search ad-based crypto phishing attack has happened.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given the rise in such scams, the Security Alliance (SEAL) has <a href=\"https:\/\/radar.securityalliance.org\/malicious-google-ads-targeting-crypto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously discovered<\/a> over 356 malicious advertising URLs that target cryptocurrency wallets and platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attackers are stepping up their game<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This comes as South Korean cybersecurity company Genians has reported that Kimsuky, a hacker collective with ties to North Korea, is <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/north-korean-hackers-turn-to-ai-as-crypto-scams-surge-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allegedly incorporating AI tools<\/a> straight into its cyberattack infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The action may enable Kimsuky to automate and scale certain aspects of its attacks, including target research, phishing content creation, information analysis, and support for other phases of cyber operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Final Summary <\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span
