August has started strong for crypto. SoSo Vale data indicates that Spot Bitcoin [BTC] ETFs have seen inflows of $853.54 million, the best weekly performance since April.<\/span><\/p>\n

Notably, BlackRock’s IBIT led with $693.5 million in inflows, followed by Fidelity\u2019s FBTC with $116.5 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is notable given that the recent Coldcard hack<\/a> severely damaged Bitcoin, resulting in the loss of 1,719 BTC, or roughly $111 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Is there a catch?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A recent CryptoQuant<\/a> analysis<\/a> suggests that ETF inflows indicate that capital is moving into Bitcoin<\/a> ETFs. However, they do not always reflect growing optimism about the broader crypto market. <\/span><\/p>\n

New cash inflows, portfolio rebalancing, investors moving between ETFs, or hedge funds using ETFs and Futures for basis trades are some possible sources of the flows. <\/span><\/p>\n

This is because the Coinbase Premium remains low, spot demand has not recovered well, and options markets have modest bullish expectations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Remarking on the same, XWIN Japan and DeFi Asset Management noted,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This suggests the recent inflows may represent selective institutional or traditional-finance allocation through regulated products rather than widespread speculative buying.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Similar patterns were seen in the Ethereum [ETH] ETF, which saw inflows of $244.94 million, with BlackRock’s ETHA seeing the largest inflows of $212 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What about other altcoin ETFs?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

XRP<\/a> ETFs saw $1.01 million in inflows, while Hyperliquid [HYPE]<\/a> ETFs saw $2.84 million. <\/span><\/p>\n

At the same time, the Solana [SOL]<\/a> ETF saw weekly inflows of $144.93K, while the Dogecoin [DOGE]<\/a> ETF, which had been experiencing zero flows for a while, received inflows of $82.64K.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the opposite of what happened in Jul<\/a>y, when the Spot BTC ETFs did not perform well when compared to other altcoin ETFs that saw more days of inflow streaks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
