Interestingly, this also reveals a connection between the attackers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How much of the stolen funds were moved?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Humanity Protocol attacker transferred 15,403 ETH, worth $23.6 million, to a relatively new <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ethereum [ETH]<\/a> address, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SpecterAnalyst\/status\/2070754077164667042\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to Specter<\/a>. After that, the money was <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/investigations\/347\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transferred<\/a> to the Bitcoin [BTC] network, where it was combined with earnings linked to the KelpDAO exploit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of now, over $8 million of the stolen money has been laundered by the Humanity Protocol attacker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For context, the Lazarus Group uses this well-known tactic to combine the profits from various operations into one <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bitcoin<\/a> wallet before transferring them via mixers and over-the-counter desks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That said, the Kelp DAO exploit <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/biggest-defi-hack-of-2026-294mln-kelpdao-exploit-hits-20-chains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drained about $292 million<\/a> from its LayerZero bridge in April 2026. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/why-is-hs-price-down-today-inside-humanity-protocols-32m-exploit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Humanity Protocol lost about $32 million<\/a> in June. This happened when the hackers gained access to the deployer account and team-controlled wallets via a developer&#8217;s compromised device.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is the exploit linked to the\u00a0Lazarus Group?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Until now, the Humanity Protocol hack had raised suspicions that insiders might have been involved in the attack.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the new combination with the Kelp DAO exploit&#8217;s laundering trail points to a shared external threat actor or closely related cybercriminal network.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the funds were associated with North Korea, the plaintiff argued, they were entitled to confiscate any funds belonging to North Korean-affiliated organizations as part of the money owed in unpaid judgments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plaintiffs currently own over $877 million in unpaid judgments against North Korea from U.S. courts.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The continuing risk in DeFi<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This commingling occurs at a time when MEV bots are also growing in power in on-chain markets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While these automated systems have now made the market more efficient, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ambcrypto.com\/7-5mln-jaredfromsubway-exploit-exposes-this-defi-security-risk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jaredfromsubway.eth incident<\/a> shows how skilled attackers can still manipulate even highly specialized trading infrastructure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together, these attacks highlight the rising security threats DeFi faces.
